killer wireless installation help

So when I placed my order for an M18x the killer wireless wasn't available yet, and when it was, my order was waiting to be shipped out. So my question is if i order the killer wireless card off of like ebay or this place, would it just be a matter of
1. open up laptop
2. carefully remove old wireless card
3. install killer wireless
4. download drivers off of killergaming(or dell, which should also have the driver)
5. install the program that lets killer wireless card prioritize things
6. done, enjoy system with killer wireless card?

Hmm... this would probably void warranty?

 

That is about it. It should not void any warranties if you do break anything yourself , I could be wrong, but I do not see why it would void anything.

 

Just use this post for now. It's Pretty much the same thing you have written up there. Just different disassembly directions.

M17x R4 Changing Wireless Card

 

does the killer wireless also come with bluetooth or does it need a seperate card or something for that? because on the dell site, the killer wireless option also comes with bluetooth? but i am not sure if its a seperate part or part of the killer wireless, can anyone clarify if they the killer wireless on your system.

Edit: nvm, it doesn't come with bluetooth, then what kind of bluetooth module would i need to get bluetooth along with the killer wireless?

 

the m17x r4 has a separate bluetooth module somewhere under the palm rest I believe. I would be very surprised if the m18x didn't have a similar setup.

 

So they all do not come with bluetooth cards already?

 

m17x r4 does I think. I don't know about the rest of the machines(M14x r2, M18x R2) though.

 

Yes, the M18x is the same. I don't know why they like to advertise the wifi + Bluetooth as though it was a package deal. They are totally separate pieces of hardware mounted on opposite sides of the motherboard. So, if you have Bluetooth now, (which I believe is standard on both the M17x and M18x,) you can switch between Intel and Killer wireless without having to give it a second thought.

 

I have the Wireless-N 2230, which is the default option and its written like "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0", so the bluetooth isn't with the wireless card so I can just swap out the wireless card and put in the killer, or would I need a bluetooth module + the killer card? I would definately open up my laptop and check to see if i have two seperate pieces but my laptop isn't here yet lol, just gathering all the info while I'm waiting. Thanks

 

They are seperate cards, you don't need to worry about the bluetooth card, just swap in the killer when you get it.

 

sweet then just gotta grab me a killer wireless then, dell site kind of confusing, makes them see like its two things in one

 

also does anyone know if all m18x r2 screens have 3 or 2 antennas? Looking at the bottom of my laptop, on the wireless card I see 3 wires, 2 of which is hooked up. Just wanted to confirm that three antennas are indeed in the system so I can utilized killer 1103 instead of 1102 because I'll be missing an antenna
