i recieved my M17x last week and i must say i am a little dissapointed with the build quality of the computer, the left side of the palmrest area makes a creaking noise if i press it with my hand slightly which is kinda distracting for when im typing or just resting my hand on it, the left side of the chassis where the slot loading drrive is can be bent easily with my finger and there's a gap between the aluminum chassis and the keyboard even though the right side is completely stuck to the keyboard area. And for last my lid does not close uniformly, on the left side it shuts completely sealed but on the right side it leaves a big gap.
So i just wanted to know if this is normal with a lot of the M17x or is it just me. It might be just me being too ocd but when i pay more than 2000 dollars for a laptop i expect it to be built correctly.
So what should i do? I would greatly appreciate some feedback :)

Sounds like something just isn't popped in to place... My M17x is rock solid from every angle.

I received my 17X in early Nov. and it seems very well built. Compared to my XPS 1730, it's a jewel! All of the gaps are tight, lid closes with no issues. I would contact Dell and voice your concerns. I agree, for 2K it should be flawless.

yeah thats the thing, i read at least 10 reviews of the computer before getting it and everyone of them said the laptop was rock solid so it must be mine i guess

It is most likely something very simple, but unless it was dropped during shipping, it shouldn't have any gaps at all.

There is no other gaming pc on the market with such an amazing built quality. Have dell repair or replace your PC.

Its a tough question since ppl here often being kicked off between Dell and Alienware multiple times :D
Strategy for Dell/Alienware CS or Sale department is to keep calling until you are able to talk to a right person. So just give it a shot.

I did noticed (after more than 2 months of aggressive gaming) on the left of the trackpad (where I usually put a lot of pressure with my left palm) is giving a slight creaking noise, but totally within acceptable range.

Mine does it too. Have you taken it apart yet? I mean.. its not a solid block under there. There's way more stuff than a relatively simple macbook pro in an Alienware M17x, comparing them is not something you should be doing.

This isn't a solid block of steel, you got tons of stuff packed in, and the touchpad is a plastic cover covering some more fun stuff underneath. It will creak.. it's designed to come off. Just enjoy it.

Personally I think this handles 10 hour gaming sessions much better than the M1730 with regards to getting gunked up with my sweaty palms ; i still have no traces on this. My M1730 had to be wiped down.

    Gross!

Its the same. Call Dell Technical Support. You invoice as well as manual list all of the contact #s.

If you just received the laptop, then contact customer service. You can request a replacement be sent. They will build a new one and send it out. Upon receipt of the new unit you will ship back the original in the same box using a pre-printed shipping label.

You only have 30 days from date of invoice - so do not delay.

ohh, so that's how their re-placement process works ? I thought you have to send your own first and then wait for a new system

Typically, at least here in the USA, this is the norm. Not sure in other areas.

and if you feel that you're not being taken care of...just click on the problem still not resolved button on the dell support page and state your case and enter your trouble ticket number. this goes to corporate and you'll get someone who will be serious about solving your problem. this is all done by
email so it may take a few days to get a response.

I am on my fourth M17X and I have noticed that there are difference in build quality. My red system is the best build that I have seen. It is flawless. My first system (black) had some minor problems but I wouldn't have noticed them if I hadn't gotten the red system.
But all in all, the build quality if almost near perfect. If you've been spoiled like me to myself, you will notice these things since I AM OCD and will notice these little difference being that I have multiple systems. *PS DONT ASK. I post a picture soon enough of all my baby together.

I would think that a lot of the m17x, gets recycle to other customers, not saying they do. Just my opinion. Owner of m17x tinkers with it a lot within the return period. You just got lucky in getting one of those up. hehhe

My experience: I posted that my m17x gpu fan makes a resonance sound on start up0 and shut down. Everyone says that is normal. Got my replacement m17x, and guess what? No resonating sound from the gpu fan at all. The replacement feels more solid than my returned one. So again. it can be either recycle build, defect parts, and second hand (wait, thats the same thing as recycle).
