Hi all
First post here so be kind. I own an Alienware Area-51 m9750 laptop which I would like to
connect to my plasma tv. The tv has 3 hdmi connections as well as a vga connection. Would I use dvi connection on the back of the laptop? If so, can anyone tell me what the picture quality would be like if I was playing a dvd on the laptop. Any other relative information about doing this would be very much appreciated.

yes - use the dvi to the plasma (not sure if you would need a converter since i am not sure if your tv has a dvi or just hdmi only)
as far as pic qaulity, it should be as good as a home player (not withstanding blu-ray of course). also make sure the gpu can handle the resolution you are connecting to. -

If you are using it for BD playback, then you might consider getting a notebook Dock that'll give you more connector options for your audio output.
You can read about the differences between DVI and HDMI at this link: http://tinyurl.com/dz7xg2
Even though it's on the HP site, it's still a great description of the 2. -

also take into account what the other poster said about the audio.
GL and let us know if it works. -
You might want to find a user guide for the TV. My TV has 3 HDMI inputs but 1 of them (and only that one) can be used with DVI without a converter. It looks just like the other 2. I had to read the guide to find it. We just use a cord that has hdmi on one side and DVI on the computer.

thanks for all the info guys. I'm at work again and never got to check the manual last night. By the looks of things though I just need a HDMI to dvi cable and a set of audio leads. I'm sure I have seen a set somewhere that has the HDMI, DVI and audio incorporated in to the same lead, but can't remember where
laptop to plasma?
