I know you mentioned you already checked twice, I suggest checking the LCD connection again. Sometimes those connectors can be a pain to align properly. Has happened to me before on more than one occasion.

    @nofate

where was the lcd connector wire that you had to reseat?

I'm out of luck if it is not in the main chassis of the laptop. (Thanks to dodgy hinge repairs that don't allow me to remove my lcd, alienware.)

did they glue your upper chasis closed? normally it's snapped shut, there are snaps all around the outer edge of the display that keep it in place even if there are no screws holding the two panels on.... The snaps on the Area-51 M15X's display are quite rigid.

as for nofate, he's got his display working, I believe it was one of the main display connectors (I'd venture the backlight was disconnected... probably one of the connections to the inverter)...

I do believe they glued it shut when I sent it in last summer for hinge repairs (they put some sort of glue on the screws.) Of course, I haven't tried prying the lcd panel off, as I'm too afraid I'd break some plastic.

If possible, I'd like to stay away from messing with the lid. My lcd screen works when I am on integrated graphics. Reseating my inverter did nothing. I'm wondering if there could be a loose connector nearer to the GPU. Anyone know?

if your display works on integrated, try reseating your GFX card. since the integrated can't have a bad connection, that's the culprit I would likely point to.

as for glue on the screws, of course. they put glue there so the little black buttons stay on top. ha.

I've reseated my GPU several times, only sporadically does it solve the problem, and the problem just arises again after a few hours or days of use.

Also, I had forgotten about the black bumpers over the screws :X, AW removed them after the repairs.

I'll check it out. Do you know if your lcd worked when on integrated graphics?

That couldn't be your problem. since it's consistently working under the integrated GFX and the external is the only setup causing the problem, it MUST be directly related to your GFX card. since reseating hasn't worked, I would speculate that the problem is likely not going to be fixed by something so simple. Most likely, you'd have to replace the graphics card to fix the issue.

Yeah, sounds like I need to convince my buddy to temporary let me transplant his 8700M into my laptop. If his card works, then maybe I'll try baking my card or something :\ Otherwise, maybe it is some sort of connection problem from the GPU to the lcd..

i have somewhat of similar problem i think , i was also fiddling with my m15x hinges (such terrible design...) and now have a screen that is so so so faint - during boot up i can just see the windows logo , and its actually resetting the laptop when it gets to where windows would start ? maybe windows cant detect a monitor ?

My M15x does not turn the LCD until Win7 completely boots up.
ie, when I power up the machine, the monitor is OFF (not just blank):
no POST nothing at all. I cant F2/F12 (or at least I cant see it on the screen)./

I find this happening ONLY when I power it back up from a hibernate.
From then on, I no longer hibernate the M15x.
