I purchased mw2 from a retailer a few months ago and installed it on my previously owned m17x. I also set up a steam account when I installed mw2 to my m17x and I was wondering if when I receive my m11x with steam prelaoded will I be able to access mw2 since it shows up in my steam account or will I not have access to it since I purchased mw2 through a retailer and not steam itself. Any replies would be great.

Not sure really. If say you were to uninstall the game? Do you have the option to download it through steam or are you required to use the CD again? If you can't re-download it through steam then no. If you can then yes you will be able to have MW2 downloaded.

Do I just use the service code provided with the game on steam to downlaod it from there?

Steam games are attached to your account. Once they are, it doesnt matter if you install them from disc or download them. I installed mw2 using the game disc which stored it to my steam account. Recently I installed steam on my new m11x, and mw2 showed up in my games list there so I could have downloaded it as well. Installing it from disc was still faster so I didn't bother. After you install steam on the m11x, go to games tab and rightclick mw2 to install from download.

NO! If i understand your question correctly [you bought mw2 on disc but want to get it through steam with the cd key you got from your retail version] ... you can not do this. This only works with Valve games like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2.

That's nonsense. The first thing my mw2 disc did was install steam and attach the cd key to my steam games list. You don't have to "get" it a second time. Some people even had a bugged install where the second disc was skipped and steam tried to download that part.

I bought the game via walmart yet when I installed it onto my m17x I was forced to use to steam and it is now apart of my steam account. I was wondering if I could downlaod it onto my m11x without the hassel of an external.

Sorry then, must be some of the newer games work as well then. Prior, maybe even just summer when I last checked... only Valve games supported retail -> steam. Thanks for the clarification.

If it is already a part of your steam account, as far as I know MW2 is DRM free and therefore yes, you can install it as many times as you want, where ever you want!

If the game forced you to install Steam then you can rest assured it will be there once you log onto your account on your m11x.

There are numerous games out there that require to be installed on Steam, even if from retail. For example, The Last Remnant (which I bought last summer) requires Steam. In the same way, Modern Warfare 2 requires Steam.

And just as with Valve games, as soon as you put the games onto your account, they are permenantly linked. You can put Steam on any computer you want and download the game onto it.

Note though that you can only be logged into your Steam account on one computer at a time so you can't play multiple copies of the game at once across several computers.

Hope that clarifies it a bit further for you.

It works with MW2. I bought it from Amazon; and Ive never used the DVD.

Here is a link of games you can activate on Steam: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601
