I just plugged in a set of Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Earbud Earphones (retails @ $499.99 - insane professional grade quality) into the audio jack, and the audio quality is downright horrible. It's extremely flat with absolutely no bass. I also tried my Sennheiser HD 595s and I get the same result.

It's really sad how my iTouch provides much higher sound quality than a mobile gaming laptop. Are there any sound drivers or tweaks to bring more life out of this thing? I've already tried playing with the features provided by the audio settings, but it's still missing that crispness.

Only solution here is a good portable DAC amp.

See my sig, and have a look at the iBasso range. They will make your UE Triple Fi's rock on.

They certainly are an excellent match for my Klipsch Custom 3's.

Onboard sound is not audiophile quality.

Get an expresscard x-fi if you seek ultimate quality. You won't find it in any onboard sound. You will need a dedicated sound card. $500 headphones / $800 laptop. I think you see the dilemma here. Heck, most laptops, even the $3000 ones have onboard audio, and are of the same quality. It's all software driven.

If it's of any help, my M15x's sound was horrible until I downloaded the latest drivers and then uninstalled them again. I'm no audiophile but it was a big improvement, it would miss drum beats in parts where a lot of different sounds were playing at the same time.

Interesting.... sound on mine is pretty good. Actually if I had the complain with mine, is that basses are too strong, while high tones are actually the ones that could be improved, so I just played a little with software equalizer. OK it's not the quality of a real HiFi system, but I can't complain. Comparing it to my desktop Cambridge Soundworks 2+1 sound system:

On top of it, the built in speakers are much better than on any other laptop I've seen.
