As always, I freak out right before I buy something expensive, as I may have this computer for quite some time.

I originally brushed off the m11x's processor choices when it first came out but now that i've seen benchmarks I went back to it.

Can someone campare its processor to mine?

i'm running a intel pentium dual core 2.2 ghz

i'll be getting the core 2 duo 1.3 (though i will OC it to 1.6)

will I see a huge difference, and if so, which direction?

I can't see much of a dif going from a P8400 2.26 c2d to this... Probably depends more on what you are asking it to do... I basically surf and use MS Office apps if I'm not playing a game...

It really depends on what you'll be using the system for. The m11x is designed specifically for gaming. It comes with an nvidia 335m which is very fast for such a small form factor, and they chose the c2d i think because it's great on battery life, and honestly the processor has a limited impact on most modern games.

I realize it's a bit freaky buying a gaming rig with a slightly outdated processor, and one that runs at 1.6 ghz, but in the end all that matters is ingame benchmarks. There is a staggering amount of evidence now that this little bad boy can really run the latest games smooth as silk on either the highest settings, or medium in some cases (ie: crysis).

Don't let the processor hold you back, it's just a number as far as i'm concerned, and you won't care when you're rocking 30-40 fps in your favorite game.

Edit: in short, if you're buying it as a portable gaming rig, i think you will have zero buyers remorse.

Just wondering why is everyone getting SU7300 over SU4100? According to the reviews, the difference in performance seems to be few % at most, unless you are running virtual machines. SU7300 as an upgrade is an extra $100.

I think in the end its still a better processor, and though benchmarks don't really show a significant difference whatever extra you get its still a difference.
I think for resale factor its worth the extra cost at least to me it is.

Oh and if you bought it with stack coupons it was well worth the choice. ;)

It is better, for one it has 1MB cache more - but it just doesn't seem it's $100 better. And given that the laptop itself is $800, the upgrade is 1/8 of the price. With stackable coupons anything was worth the price. :D

As for reselling, I don't know for how much you are planning to sell it, but to make it worth it, the price would have to be >$100 extra to account for the SU7300 CPU.

I'd be doing med-high games (source games pretty much)

I'd also be doing video edting (adobe after effects), web browsing, AIM, the norm.

    how would that fair?

    PS. 4 gigs of ram

I think most people got it from needing some upgrades to push the price to $1000 to use the $100 coupon and it being a required option if ordered through EPP.
