this is a comparison thread so i'll jus post it on 1 of the 2 manufacturers.

what i wana know is which 1 is better for gaming? as i am having a tough choice choosing between 1 of the two.

the Acer AS3820TG-6829 can be found here: Acer AS3820TG-6829, Notebook - Intel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz, 13.3" LCD, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6550 1GB, No ODD, Wireless BGN, Bluetooth, HDMI, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium | Canada Computers

    cpu and gpu
the intel core i5 on teh acer obviously beats the m11x's intel core 2 duo 1.3ghz outside the gaming realm. but the acer also features a radeon hd 6550 which im not sure if it is better than the m11x's geforce gt 335m. my m11x (still within refund period) lags a tiny but periodically when playing league of legends, and minor delay responses when playing left 4 dead which the m11x claims to play so well on. that and i heard that the hd6550 which supports directx11 which takes advantage of multi core cpus.

    physical form
i also find the 11.6 inch to b just a tiny bit smaller than what i want, so mayb the acer's 13.3 inch would b a better pick, that and alienware doesnt make good use of its available space as the bevel to the screen is very thick, the acer probably wont b much bigger despite the bigger screen size. the acer is thinner, weighs less, with a bigger screen size, only down side is lack of backlit keyboard.

    display quality
the AUO display for the m11x is also very, very poor with a pitiful contrast ratio of 217:1 combined with a terrible vertical viewing angle and combined once again with an unnatural blue tint. does any1 know if the acer will have a higher quality display? i know acer uses either LGD023F or BNQ7C02 on one of their particular models but i was unable to google any actual specs of these displays. i do care about display quality (if it wasnt because of my previous bad experience with hp laptop parts malfunctioning one at a time i wuda chosen hp laptops since their displays look gorgeous).

i am aware that the acer is much cheaper priced at 730 as opposed to the m11x for a pricey 1k CAD. budget is around 1k, could go a little higher if its a really good deal, but these two seem the best that suits my needs for portable gaming (league of legends, sc2, mayb even diablo 3 when it comes out lolol).

any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The Acer is better for gaming. If you get the m11x you are really just paying for the brand, style and mobility.

    Both cards exchange blows.

As for the "paying for the brand", I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.

The M11X has an on-site next day tech warranty service, which gives you little downtime. Acer requires you to mail it in and the turn around time is weeks.

Timeline is obviously a better choice in general if we're comparing the duo core M11X to the Timeline (i5), just be aware of the warranty.

so what if the m11x gets upgraded to an i5 for just an additional 50 bucks?

If we examine SC2 for example:
    335M:
    Low 164
    Med 45
    High 30

    AMD 6550
    Low 184
    Med 42
    High 26

    Bad Company 2

    335M:
    Low 55
    Med 32
    High 24

    AMD 6550
    Low 63
    Med 47
    High 32

Acer is a little better in the majority of games, but is that worth losing next-day warranty? Only you can answer that :p

If you're grabbing an M11X with i5, then I'd pick that over the Acer b/c of the warranty service.

    Edit:
Just noticed you're Canadian. Where do you live?

If you live near the border, just ship it to one of these services: http://www.cbiusa.com/ and buy it from either the US Alienware website or the Dell Outlet. You'll save up to 40%.

That website is the one Ontario residents use, however there's one for almost every border crossing.

About 2 hours and the shipping center is 5-10 minutes after crossing into the US after the bridge in Niagara Falls.

    Worth the drive IMO.

What i meant by "brand" is that you can find many other computers for about the same price, or cheaper that will outperform alienware in gaming. Of course they are not as stylish, sleek and cool as alienware, and course the warranty is better since is sold by dell. Therefore, if you like the style, looks and portability, PLUS money to burn, get alienware. If you don't mind about the looks there are plenty of laptops out there to chose for gaming that will cost you less than an alienware. HP sells some nice cheap laptops that will outperform the m11x.

Uhmmm... No. If you want to make a comparison thread, do it here (SEARCH first, most likely someone has already beat you to it).

Oh, and just to be clear, review the stickies in that section before posting a compare thread.
