If I could and had the extra money I would go for the Z in an instant. 13.1" screen in a similar form factor, plus an i7.. damn mmmm, but the STARTING price of an M11x is what got me all the way, plus the gfx card. Even if it was a 330m instead of a 335m, I'd still probably be all over the M11x. Even if the Z was starting at $1399 with platter drive option instead of SSD I'd opt for the Z, but unfortunately those are just wishes.

Haze, I wouldn't bother canceling now to be honest. You'll probably get your M11x in before the Z even ships so you could sell it NIB for even more than you paid for it. I know when I wanted an M15x I considered eBay b/c I could get it in 2-3 days rather than a couple weeks.. people will pay to receive things faster...

The Z is an awesome looking machine. Until the machine gets a real review...AKA not Engadget...just about everything people are saying about it is pure conjecture. I'm sure it's going to perform quite nicely and we already know it is a beautiful machine. As someone who has owned every significant rev of Sony Z and the S series before that the new Z doesn't really thrill me.

Unfortunately, every Z that I've owned has had some issue whether it was squeaking keys, space bar that needed to be shimmed to register key presses, spastic fan, palmrest that rubs off the display antiglare coating, keys that rub off the antiglare coating, flaky power connection, loose battery, battery drain while off, display lid rubbing the backside of the display and causing pressure marks, display trim panel that rubs marks into the palmrest, etc., etc. These are common problems just do a search. Something tells me the new Z will have issues as well. It's an engineering marvel that Sony packs so much technology into such a small package. It's this cutting edge technology, materials, and packaging that causes so many of the issues I mentioned. I decided to forgo the Z this time around. I'll wait it out to see how the early adopters fair. Maybe Sony got it right this time.

I had a little over $2K budgeted for toys so instead of the Z I ordered a M11x (I'll install my own Intel 160 GB G2 SSD). So out of pocket it was a little over $800 with overnight shipping. With the $1000 dollars I saved over the Z I bought a new set of irons. :D

Thanks for advice everyone, I am going to sleep on it and we see what happens. Biggest problem is if 11x arrive and I don't have Sony Z yet I will wan't to open 11x and play with it LOL So won't be able to sell NIB. Maybe I play with it enough I will be happy though...who knows. I definitely need to sleep on it though, go look at TV's tommorow get my mind off it for awhile before making a decision. I think maybe I can knock the price off my taxes so it won't matter so much in the end and if can sell the 11x for a couple bucks extra that will help too. It's good at least that I stress out so much about this stuff nowadays, in the old days I just spent money as fast as I could make it. I have been really trying to get away from that though and start saving.

Both machines will be good enough performers if you ask me.
Only concern on the Z is that the old model ran hot.
That review did say the new Z ran pretty cool but we need a real review.
I'm gonna wait for user reviews and see what's the deal between the 2.

I find it hard to believe just how small the parts are in these laptops. I was completely taken away when I found these pictures....to give some one that doesn't know what parts look like in an 11 inch notebook...(these are taken from notebookreview btw)

^^ the size of that fan scares me... alot! there is no way that dinky lil thing will be able to cool a machine with that high of a TDP. yikes!

So what happens when something comes out that blows the Sony Z out of the water? Are you going to then sell the Z and buy that machine because it is the best? It won't be long before the next best thing hits the market, and that could be a very expensive habit.

In this form factor it will be awhile, likely until the next Z or next m11x is released. And it's really not that much as long as you keep up with product lifecycles and sell before the next gen is released you can recoup alot of your money, most actually and upgrade for very little cost compared to purchasing all over again, it is mostly just the initial cost of entry that hurts which it's certainly a higher entry cost for Z. I do it all the time though with my desktops, you would be surprised how much people pay for stuff on EBAY, I have sold stuff for higher than retail price on more than one occasion. Not sure why, but I don't complain LOL

LG P310 has been the only serious gaming notebook at this form factor for the last 2 years... (9600Mgt+P8700 for a 13.1 with 1.6kg).
It's less than 200grms more than the Z and 1 cm deeper.
Before the LG, you have a 14inch Zepto with 8600Mgt at 2.2kg and it was the only thing that powerful for alsmost 2 years as well.
It's still a great mobile machine today, I have a friend who make Supreme commander lan party with it with good fp, not really the easiest game to handle for notebook.

To be honnest I am only updating to the Z because of the hybrid system, my 9600mGT is just a little bit slower than a GT330m so no big gpu upgrade for me. My P8700 is enough for my GPU, i5 is good for battery though :).

Look at the desktop gpu, sure they got more powerful very often, but they can get bigger and require bigger case. Notebook needs a breakthrough in order to keep same size, keep battery (something desktop don't care) and bring more power.

Two things would make me upgrade immediately though -> desktop GPU connector to notebook (XGP from ATI or new stuff from the green team) and hydrogen liquid battery  . Not for tomorrow! :p
