Hey all, not sure what to get my wife....she wants a new gaming notebook to replace her asusg50. I hear the new m11xr2 is much faster than the former model, PC gamer said its 3d native vantage was 6700??. She wants something thats portable but fast, she plays League of legends, CSS, Civ5 and Arma2. is the m11xR2 comparable to the m15, assuming both have i7s and 8gigs memory?
-
-
8Gbs of memory is unnecessary, save the money and buy a SSD afterward.
The performance wont be similar since the M11x R2 is a i7 620UM, the UM stands for Ultramobile, so the performance are not nearly as nice as the actual i7 620m or any other i7 you get on the M15x.
Though to play the games you said the M11x will be more than good and it is way more portable than the M15x. -
Im pretty sure there's a HUGE difference in GPU, even more so than cpu, and i think that makes a bigger dif.
-
The difference in the CPU performance is about 50%, yes that is huge though the money is bigger too. Plus there is no need for an awesome gpu when you play games like CSS!
But if you want to have the best performance, get the M15x, for the portability and battery life, M11x. -
OP also stated Arma2, that is one of the most CPU and GPU intensive games ever made. I'm shocked the nivida 335 can even compare to the ATI card in the m15.
-
You should probably get the M15x. The M11x is not good for modern games at all...
The M15x is just as portable assuming she doesn't keep her laptop in her tiny purse. -
Personally I think an 11" screen is far to small to satisfy gaming I think she would probably agree.
-
12.1" M1210 GeForce 7400
10.1" N10j 9200gs
11.6" m11x gt335m
12.1" DV2 HD3410 (glorified hd3200 with 512mb dedicated ram)
Except for me, none of us game on desktops (I still have an i7 930/HD5870 CF setup I used to use).
Somebody get the whitecoat orderlies! We need to be locked away for utilizing teeny screens for gaming!
Though I did just send the DV2 far, far, far away to FloridaNothing could save that poor nimwit's soul. Just didn't have the right design direction. Too thin, too hot. Got replaced by a cheap 4810TZ 14" honkin' tank

I couldn't dare imaging watchin TV on this, lol.
Which I guess *could* factor into the OP's conversation: and Hulu, NetFlix, etc? -
Had both but had to return the m11x. Way to small even compared to my Toshiba 12.6in. 15x is huge compared to my 12in but compared to a macbook pro 15in its not much heavier. Thicker yes.
-
Given the huge issues with the M11x screen, I would definately opt for the M15x. She'll let you party with her in her birthday suit when ever you want
-
It'll hold, easily -
i thought i saw m11xR2 or mx15 or wife? -.-'

I'd suggest the Asus G73. My wife and I were looking at a computer for her with similar needs as posted. In the end, you get more for your money with the G73 than the M15x. Size is probably about the same, too.
As for the RAM - Civ5 needs a ton. I have 4GB in my M17x and noticed a significant performance increase just from inserting a 4GB SD card and using it for ReadyBoost. It's prompted me to consider upgrading to 8GB.
Don't go M11x - trust me it won't handle the graphics needs of Civ5 without making sacrifices. -
I'd suggest going with the m15x. With any kind of gaming system, the bottleneck is most commonly the GPU. Being that you can get a much more powerful GPU setup on the m15x while still maintaining some portability, I'd say this is the right way to go. It's not ultra-portible, but I would tend to think that she'd be pleased with the drastic performance increase.

with my m11xr1 i played global agenda, L4D2, and SC2 perfectly fine. it also played mirrors edge and mass effect 2 very well. the computer is just awesome with the 8+ hours of battery life, plus the capability of gaming.
-
I wouldn't stand playing call of duty 2, battlefield 2 etc at 30 fps and 720p
-
-
The m15x is *HUGE*(saw it at Frys), so I agree with that.
Personally, I still have a desktop for the brute force that I occasionally need to get a job done
EDIT: as for the screen, I just force myself to sit back. Every few min I need to remind myself. If I cannot see it, then I simply ignore it (gaming; for work, I just have to suffer...).
-
I have the M11x/ M15x combo and they are both absolutely fantastic machines! The M15x for gaming at home, and the M11x for using around the house and when im out at Uni
-
will Arma 2 even run on the M11x?.....i have it and my M17x doesn't handle it on max settings with stable FPS, i think the M11x will struggle with this game!
-
arma2 is horribly optimized, iirc. Maybe the i7 variant of the m11x will work, but that's a push...
-
If you're trading your wife for a laptop, might as well get the most value, take the m15x.
-
Wife just got her G73 and LOVES it.
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G73JW-XA...CZ0E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1287582302&sr=8-3
$1450 no tax/free shipping for an i7, 1080p, 460 graphics, 8GB Ram. Not too shabby!
The important thing I think we're all missing here is that your wife is a gamer. Win.
m11xR2 or mx15 for wife?
