I'm looking for reviews of the screen, and most setups that people have seem to be of the 1080p. I've read that the 1080p screen is pretty awesome. Any comments on the 900p one?

I always go for the higher resolution screen on any laptop, and I made no exception for the M15x. For the extra $100 I spent, I think I got my money's worth.

Arguably the 900p is superior for gaming, at least as far as frame rate goes, 1080p has the edge on multimedia i.e. Blu-Ray etc.. other than that it's personal preference on screen real estate and how good your eyesight is :)

Easy answer.... Get the 1080p and if your graphics suffers use the 1600x900

But LCD displays always look best in their native resolution.

This is true. One of the reasons I stuck with 1440x900 on my M17, seeming as I can hardly notice the difference anyway with a bigger resolution when gaming.

Agreed, 1600x900 vs. 1920x1080 for gaming, it really looks about the same to me, except I get better performance and frame rates at 1600x900 and zero eye strain in select situations.

1080P media content? Everything is available and will be ifor the life of 1080/720 in 720P and 1080P and, again, on the screen sizes in question (15.6 / 17.3), it won't make a big difference. Heck, I can't really tell a big difference most times on my 32" and 60" screens and so much content is 720P that more times than not they are letterboxed with bars top and bottom.

I'd probably get the 900p. I can't run even COD4 Modern Warfare @ 1920x1200 (2xAA, max everything else) without choking in many places. But my 24" is 1920x1200, so I have no choice but to run in native.

I think 1080p will become more viable as gaming screens with the next generation of high end cards (HD 58 series, or 300M series). Perhaps if you are running SLI 280/260, it may be OK as well.

just recently I was at futureshop looking at the 1080p screen on the Envy 15. I can't imagine how anyone can stand such a high resolution on a screen that size. My eyesight isn't particularly that good, but I found that it was a bit too high for a 15 inch screen. If you're really curious how it looks, see if you can go to next best buy and see the 1080p screen on the Envy 15, it may give you a good idea at how it looks.

On a 15.6" display, 1080p is overkill and as others noted, it hurts gaming performance so there's no point in having it unless you do a lot of work on the desktop that requires multiple windows open. If you're a gamer, skip the 1080p.

Not MW2 you can't. At 900P it drops to the low 30s for me in some scenes so it has to drop even lower at 1080p.
