Hello all!
Last week after discovering the huge latency my m15x was facing due to the x34 BIOS, i have decided to flash x36 in.. It solved the problem very well.. My latency dropped from avg 16000 to avg 1000, which was quite noticeable for me..
However, the overzealous CPU cooler was really annoying, so I decided to roll back to x32 to keep my latency around 1000..
So I flashed it with the x32 we can find in the mini-my hive in the forums and it worked very well. No latency problems, no sleep / quick touch issues, no kb lag, etc..
However, the CPU fan still seems to want to come out and play a little too often.
Reading my CPU temp via ThermoFan indicates that the fans kick in at 4250RPM the first time the temp reaches 50C. Fair enough.. The only problem is that even if I am idling at stealth mode with battery settings on power saver, it still is very hard to keep it below 50C.
Puzzled, I ran RMclock and checked that the CPU temperature actually hovers around 32C when doing everyday stuff like browsing the web..
So I guess that ThermoFan (and probably also the BIOS itself) are reading the wrong CPU temp, making the fan remain on basically all the time..
Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
My system is an 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo with an 8800m GTX and 4Gb RAM...
For example, I have just booted up and typed this post. ThermoFan reads 47C, fans blasting at 4250RPM, while RMclock reads 28.8C. Stealth Mode is off and power setting is at Balanced.

that sounds right our m17 idles at that and since the 8800 gtx is in there it causes extra heat .....
i think 30 c is normal with my cooler is the only way to break into the 20's -
Yeah the temps are perfectly fine, but the problem is that ThermoFan (and therefore probably the BIOS as well) reads this temp as 50C, so it turns the fan on, even though it is not necessary at the moment.
It only started happening after I flashed x36 and then x32 BIOS..
But yeah, 30c idle is great IMO -
o i see now try and see what cpu z and gpu-z says see if it is the same
-
Yup it's confirmed:
CPU-Z HWMonitor: 32C
RMClock: 32C
ThermoFan: 50C
Stealth Mode on, just browsing around..
Update:
Seems like the temp ThermoFan reads as CPU DTS temp, is the temperature HWmonitor sees as ACPI temperature.
I just don't understand why this ACPI temp is 50C when both cores are at 31C... weird.. -
yea, its been happening to me too lately, by hwmonitor states its in the 50=60 range, but not going down on everyday stuff.
m15x - x34 to x36 then x32 - fan noise
