I've decided to update my 8800 GTX driver, BAD IDEA. When i try to update the driver , during the installation i get the message that there isn't a nvidia driver compatibel with my 8800m card.

So i've decided to use the cd of alienware with all the drivers and programs. So i reinstall the original driver from the cd and i get the same message and that i have to abort the installation. Result no driver installed. How can i resolve this?

you were trying to install the 175.80 beta drivers? what i do before i install any driver is to first uninstall the driver and reboot the comp. then i use driver sweeper to get rid of anything that is left over from the uninstall and reboot again. then install the new drivers. it might be something left from that uninstall that is having conflicts with the new driver. if that doesnt work i guess you can try something from laptopvideo2go. you can find the procedure i just mentioned in Stone's SLI guide.

I had some major gfx problems with counter-strike so i did a format. And now i want to install drivers. I've allready tried several drivers from that site.

    The notebook doesn't has SLI

you just follow the procedure to installing a video driver in that guide. the sli part comes after you install the driver so you dont have to read about that. the important part is basically to use driver sweeper to clean out whatever is left from the uninstall. thats how i do it everytime and its been flawless.

yeah, i'd advise you to do it how exiled does it. unistall, reboot, driver sweeper, reboot, install.

oh yeah, you have added the modded .inf file to the driver's file, right?

you only have to do that if you get your driver from laptopvideo2go. its right next to the link that you download your driver when you down from laptopvideo2go.

i'm just putting forward the .inf thing because you said the driver isn't recognized as compatible with your GPU, which is exactly why you need the modded .inf, because the driver (in it's original state) isn't "allowed" for the 8800m. so maybe that's the source of your problems.

Although driver sweeper does an ok job, I wouldn't suggest using it a lot. It tends to cause DLL problems. If you find a sweet driver, restore the system completely and apply it. Despite how hard you try to remove all the fragments of previous drivers, they'll still build up and cause performance glitches.
