m15x CC Problems and general problems. I need help!

First i must apologise. The size of this forum i cannot find a topic that covers this. Although im sure someone probably can i cannot at the moment. So im sorry if this is a repeat thread.

Im having problems with the laptop in general.

1 week after it arrived on my front door step, much to my great delight, windows decided to go and corrupt itself on me. So..

phone alienware tech. Very helpful. Told me to reinstall it using the disc i had, which i did, then install the drivers in the order OSD==>chipset==> the rest of the drivers. Which i did. Everything starting to work again. Yippee!

But wait. Now i start to notice the little problems..

-Alienware command centre touchpad button no longer works.

- None of the buttons, when pressed, come up with a onscreen box showing the volume control or that stealth mode is now on etc (it used to do this for me before reinstall of windows 7)

- I go into the CC and go to "touch". When selecting "Turn off the touchpad when an external USB mouse is plugged in" it now comes up with the "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component" it then proceeds to crash the program (but still turn off the touchpad for a while).

Another phone call to alienware. Having problems with the HRESULT error i tell the rather nice chap. he says try rolling back the synaptics touchpad driver and restarting. So i roll it back and restart (hes still on the phone) get back to CC to test and ive lost the ability to click on "touch" AND "Fusion" in the CC.. It wont open either of them.

At this point i lose connection, or he hangs up. But yes. So i call back and get another guy answer (obviously). Explain the problems and he tells me to completely reinstall windows again and install all the drivers again and see if that gets it to work. I ignore that for the time being just to test something. So i roll FORWARD the driver for the synaptics touchpad again and now "touch" is working.

However.. when i click on "fusion" it is unresponsive. This is my rather long winded story and im only 2weeks into even owning my m15x!! Personally rather tempted to just say sod it and send it back and ask for another. Because BEFORE the corruption it worked PERFECT.

I really need some help fixing these problems with it. Any suggestions that doesnt involve me having to wipe the entire system and again and start all over would be awesome. But if thats what ive got to do then ill do it if you guys thinks its best.

for touch and fusion to work you need the oem touchpad driver. but touch just plan sucks, so i recommend not using it at all and use the window default driver for your touchpad. and fusion is not really need either, windows power options does the exact same thing.

to get your touch buttons back just:
turn off
unplug
take battery out
press power button for 20 sec.
and put back and power on.

 

any idea where i can find the oem touchpad driver for an install? ill try the powerbuttons etc now.

under input devices

but trust me alien touch and fusion is really not needed, and alien touch really make your touchpad lag and suck big time. i recommend disabling them altogether. only alien fx is worth keeping.

 

Just did the hard reset didnt fix the problem. The command center button still doesnt open CC and when you press stealth mode and the volume controls there is still no on-screen prompting as to when your pressing it etc. =/

try reinstalling your cc in repair mode, and reinstall your osd also.
also list your specs and what versions of cc you are using.

 

did the reinstall in repair mode earlier today. Didnt reinstall the osd. Will do that now.

what bios are you running?
also new cc is available too, same link as before.

 

OK so far your doing pretty well. Youve fixed everything apart from the fact that fusion still doesnt work.

click on it and nothing runs. So ill go and download the new version of the CC and see what that does.

No idea how to find out what bios. Im still a noob.

 

newer version of cc works best with the newest bios. newest is A05 for both.
when booting up press f2 to go into bios and you will see what version you have.

 

Give this man a cookie and spare rep. Everything fixed. I tell you what.. You fixed what the alienware tech support couldnt understand/do. And you fixed it in an hour.

And it would have been quicker if i could download faster. thanks alot!!
