I ran CPUz on my m15x and noticed that the Core Speed and Multiplier keep changing. The core speed cycles from 2792.0 mhz to 1196.6 mhz, and the multiplier goes from 12x to 6x. Is this normal? I have the x32 RC1 bios.

I ran Prime95 and the CPU clock stayed at 2792 and the multiplier at 12x. Seems like it's only doing it when the CPU isn't being taxed.

    Here are some screens

CPU throttles to save energy. Google SpeedStep.

the cpu is made to downclock by itself when it isnt needed. this is so the cpu wont drain too much power when you arent doing anything that needs the cpu. the cpu will jump back up when you need it again.

Is it possible to disable it? I was playing Sam and Max Season 1 last night, and everytime I went to the options menu there was a few second delay, and loading from one zone to another took longer than normal. I thought it might be related to the CPU downclocking. I just wanted to try the game with it off to see if it makes a difference.

Try getting RMClock and tell it to use the Max CPU profile, should prevent it.

I downloaded the program but I don't see the option. Can you tell me where it is in the utility?

    Thanks

I think the High Performance Power Scheme doesn't allow the CPU to downclock as well? Not shure though but you can modify any power profile to always use 100% Clock Speed!

Well everyon told me the same thing. This is normal that how speed step work..

Well I tried a prime95 test and Othos. My CPU reached 95 degrees and downcloked. That is just my experience so far adn I haven't heard of any one else having teh same issues. But I also don't recall anyone running prime 95 and monitoring CPU temps. I had the extreme processor aswell. When I searched through the help section, I looked at some pictures with the CPU heatsink. I instantly noticed my CPU heatsink was half teh size and had a different revision number.

As a precaution I would suggest you try a Prime95 test or orthos and see if your processor throttles up and down like that aswell. It takes about 5 minutes or so if not longer but My CPU would overheat and throttle back at arround 95 degrees C.

Give it try and see how it goes. And don't let everyone discourage you. If you are unsure about anything on your system just ask away, alot of people on this great site will surely answer your questions.
