I removed the GPU fan, CPU fan and keyboard on my m15x to clean my laptop. All went fine. Infact, I've always had bad keybpard flex on the right side - turns out the screw was toally loose on the right side. I tightened it up and the keyboard is completely solid now.

Anyway, I removed the GPU fan and cleaned the heat sink. I put the fan back exactly as it was, tightened the screws (and remembered to plug the power into the motherboard). My max temp while gaming is now 80-84 degrees. They never went above 78 before. I've reinstalled the GPU fan twice, tightened all the screws but still get the same max temps. Intersestingly the idle temps are slightly lower - 45 degrees instead of 46. I use the latest version of GPU-Z to monitor temps. Anyone got any ideas why the max temps are now 6 degrees higher?

    Thanks

Was there any thermal paste you might have wiped off by accident?

Or better yet, did you apply new thermal paste after removing the heatsink like you're supposed to?

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't remove the heatsink, i just removed the gpu fan. The heatsink is untouched.

Max temp hit 88. It never used to hit 80 before. I checked the fan to make sure nothing is obstructing it. All seems clear.

Can you run the system with the cover off to make sure the fan is spinning? Perhaps something happened when you reconnected it?

Yeah, I already did to make sure - it seemed to be running fine. It was spinning fast and there was no unusual noise, at least ...

Well, if your idle temps are lower, and your max temps are only a few degrees higher, I would say you're maybe no worse off then you were before. If you're really concerned about it, the only thing left to try would be a clean layer of thermal paste on the GPU Dies.

Max temps are 10 degrees higher, which is fairly significant. It's not that big a deal I suppose, but it'd be interesting to find out what happened. All I did was take remove the gpu fan, clean the heat sink with compressed air and then replace the fan ...
