According to the Alienware rep at CES the m15x is coming out on Friday and with dual batteries you can get an impressive 4-5 hours of battery life. It's going to be one of the best notebooks out in every regard; battery life, design, form factor, and power. I'm sure we still have awhile to wait until the m17x comes out... (probably in February when the 8800M GTXs are compatible with SLI, maybe we'll be able to preorder one when the m15x comes out?)

supposedly.
-
I think its too close to the release for them to delay.
-
I can second source the same information... m15x on Friday. You should be subscribed to their update newsletter. Talked to AW at the Dell booth... saw the machine in person. They had a silver model, fingerprints were not too bad.
The same rep would not confirm 8800 compatibility for the m9750. No decision has been made on this I was told.
m17x, Q1. What that means is everyone's interpretation. -

Did you see the black version? How did it look, better than silver?
-
Was it more then 2 inch thick?
-
Just saw the silver one at the Dell booth.
A 7600-based m9750 was at the Intel booth. Did not see other Alienware laptops though I did not spend much time hunting for them.
Someone was playing with the color setup... its nice.. can set each are to its own color,, and a good dozen or so colors. Seems to take a few moments for each effect to materialize. It was pleasant, not gaudy... better in person than the pictures and videos.
I enjoyed talked to the rep, nice conversation! -
The finished seemed similar to the Voodoo Envy's. I may be wrong,, someone will correct me. -
Arkarch, thanks for asking AW directly about 8800M GTX compatibility with the m9750; even tho I live in LV too, I am unable to personally attend the CES this year :<
I'm still waiting on this last issue before ordering my m9750 (wondering now if there will be further price drops with release of the m15x?; probably not until m17x is released...) -
You have to disable adblock to watch that video
But on another note,I simply can't wait for the release of this laptop!
-
Anybody know what resolutions they're gonna offer on this one?
N -
The guy mentions the price at the end - $2100-2200. I wonder what sort of configuration that is for.
I also wonder how loud this machine is. The Sager 5792 is apparently quite loud. If they managed to make this thing run quieter than the Sager that would really be something. -
What about price?? On the Cnet video, the guy said you could "cut corners" to get it under 2,000 and on the other video the guy said it would be at the 21 or 2200 dollar price point. Has anybody else heard anything about this??? *edit* sorry, didn't see Satopia's post about price.

i didnt know we had the option... well sounds interesting either way.

i can bet that the machines will be considerably quiter because AW wouldve spend s***laods of time designing the cooling and noise factors for their laptops. I think they'll be simply amazing

So are these coming with penryn or not?
Also why isnt CES open to the public? -
Eh, I'm not trading in my m9750 just yet. I think the machine itself is very powerful and of course of Alienware quality but I just hate the look of it. The lit up keyboard is just a bit tacky. However though of course anyone buying one this Friday I am just a wee bit jealous of.
-
I do feel $2100-$2200 for a 15incher is a bit pricey. Note that I am NOT saying they are overpriced, but definitely a new pricing given the technology that this laptop holds. However, I have the feelings the base price IS sub-$2000. We'll see. -

I dont know what to buy!!!
1)pay 2200$ for m15x
or
2)buy a quad-core PC with 8800gtx 1500$
PLEASE advice me -
Does anyone know if this is likely to be a Worldwide release, IE the UK seeing it on Friday too? What has happened in the past with the 5550 and 9750 releases?

$2200 for the M15X is actually a little lower than I thought, if you can get a similar configuration to the Sager in my sig for that, then this is a great price for you Alienware guys.
-
It really depends on what they are going to include in the starting price. It's probably going to be like 8600M GT DDR3, 1 GB RAM, 80GB 5,400 rpm HDD. I hope not, because then upgrading will come to a price tag of at least 3000.
-
yup, that is what I thought too. If it's include the 8800gtx on that $2200, then it's cheap. But if it's only the starting price, then it's damn expensive.
-
Geez Im in the UK and was lookig foward to both laptops the 15x and 17x , if it is 2100 dollars for the 15x then it will be £1300 to £1400 in the UK and probably £1800 to 2000 at least for the 17x , we always pay more than the exchage rate. Hoefully alienware europe has it this friday , the factory is in Athlone - Rep Ireland . Was lookigng quite hard at the dell xps 1530 as is priced really well but the 8800M GTX was looking attractive in the alienware 15x , I just hope its not a ripoff.

-
That m15x is looking better and better every time I see it. It might be time to sell my old m5500
-
I've secured my funding for the M15x... now to await it's release
-

Hehe. I ordered the M9750 to replace my M5550 (got credit for it) on 12/5/07 I think. That means that if I had waited another month I could have ordered this new M15x. Gahh lol.
Whatever though, I'm happy with my M9750 anyways even though it is 17" and has less battery life.
The only positive side of getting the M9750 is that it has been thoroughly tested, and I know that it doesn't have overheating problems. For example, when I ordered the M5550, I thought it was going to be a great 15" notebook, but instead it ended up as a horrible, hot, low battery notebook.
Lets hope they don't make the same mistake with the M15x. -
If it's 2200$ with GTX, then i might consider, but if it's 2200$ as base config..no thanks!
Regarding the m15-17x case, the man in the video sad that the case is made of aluminum. Did he mean that the the hole case is of aluminium or did he mean that the case had small layer of aluminum color and the rest are plastic? -
Saw somewhere else that it was $3000 with 2.4Ghz, 2gb ram, 8800, and 200gb x7200. That sounds very likely, the $2200 quote is most likely for a 8600M or 8700M machine. This is about what you should expect to pay for this 15.4" laptop. The Smartbay, which is somewhat redundant on the dual-drive M17X looks great on the M15X, as you can run 64gb Solid State with perhaps one of those new Western Digital 320gb's that are benching so very unlike a 5400rpm drive. If I was looking for a 15.4" notebook, this would be the one I would buy. There look like there will probably be better/cheaper options for the 17", but the M15x gives you two things you probably won't get in another 15.4" notebook... 2 onboard HDDs, and the 8800M GTX.
I guess you could also throw the Core 2 Extreme processor in there as well, but then you are looking at $4500-5000 (including solid state), which is pretty up there. IMO the extreme processors are not needed on a gaming notebook under any circumstances, so look to fork out $3000 for a very fast 8800M notebook, not cheap... but a hell of a notebook.
I will say this for the record. If you are not looking to get the 8800M GTX, this is not your laptop. Ordering this machine with anything other than the 8800M is a waste, as there are better and cheaper options. With the 8800M, and a $3000 configuration you have the best and fastest 15.4" notebook in existance, and congrats to you. Ordering this system with a lesser card and you are buying a Porche with a Volkswagon engine... all show and no go. -
-
Well I'm still hoping the CNet guy was right. I'm hoping to get one with the 8700m GT for right under 2,000. The 8800 is awesome but a little too much for me. I would hope since this is going to be the only 15.4 notebook that they offer for at least a while, that they will make it somewhat affordable if you don't max everything out.
-
Here is my guess:
M15x
2.2Ghz
2GB
160GB 5400PRM
8800GTX 512MB
1440x900
Windows Vista
Total: 2900
I'm guessing this because my laptop is about the same specs (processor with 4MB L2 cache) and whatnot, so I'm guessing that is the price because they won't price it lower than the M9750 because then who would buy the M9750. I am almost 90% sure that it will be over 3K with a similar config to my laptop WITH a 3 year warranty (I have one so I totaled it in, and you should always buy a 3 yr warranty!) -
its too thick
-
-
Wait the laptop is too thick?
-
someone who went to the show would agree with me, its pretty thick for a 15" notebook
-
roor, we have been told taht a decent config for the m15x w/ 8800 is about 2200, is this relaible?
-
@hkman - it is not going to be 2200. If that was the case, then no one would buy the M9750 anymore, because you could get better performance for cheaper. Knowing AW, it will probably be at 2500/2600 so that people sitll buy the M9750.
-
2200 with an 8800gtx?
did someone hear this at the show?
i doubt it also -
The guy in the video said that it would be about 2200
-
So, for a 15" laptop, is it worth it to get a 16x10 resolution? I am so used to high resolution on small screens and I don't know if I should save a 100 bucks on it and just not upgrade and leave it at 1440x900.
-
Im definitely leaving mine at 1440x900
m15x Is Offically Coming Out Friday!
