heya, im just about to travel on plane and i was just wondering if its safe to use the m15x plugged into plane outlet.

this is the information from the company's site.

Inflight laptop power is available to passengers on a shared basis in Economy Class. The power output is 15 volt DC (75 watts) or 110 volt AC (100 watts)**.

i don't have my laptop witth me at the moment but i think the m15x usesa 120v brick though...

    thanks...

ps: i don't want to "accidentally" drain all the power from the airplane( if possible ) and crash. i killed my car's electric supply thing once doing that...

    Nope.

The wattage on the brick is 220 or 240 (I forget).

I don't think it will power the brick sufficiently....

but you not ever come anywhere close to draining the electrical supply of an airplane....

Standard AC power is 110-120V (US) or 220-240V (Europe and Others), the laptop will switch between each no problem. What you have to check is the wattage. The M17 brick pulls 220watts, not sure about the M15x though.

The majority of the power is runned off of the engines. Aircraft also use an APU (Auxiliary power unit),Batteries and generators. It depends on the airplane. I highly doudbt you are going to drain the battery. If it was a concern then they wouldnt of desgned the airplanes seats to have power outlets.

If you plan to game, thats not going to happen, but if you are watching movies are something, put it into integrated GPU, and it should run under 75watts.

You won't drain the aircraft power, the aircraft just won't provide your outlet with more than 100watts is all.

I just went on a 9hr flight with the m15x. I didnt get to test it plugged in because on the alirline I travelled with, the outlets didnt support the UK plug type. I did however have a Smartbay battery :). I could watch a 2 hr movie and play Thief for a few hrs on integrated.

There was a similar thread earlier and I think the conclusion was that the plane couldnt provide enough wattage for the m15x (120Watt adapter BTW) to run full blast. You should be able to run it fine on the highest battery equivalent settings though. Thats more than enough for older games and stuff
