pretty dissapointed with the chasis. i have 2 deep scratches on the inside of the laptop screen bezel, near the touch buttons. (i always keep the lid closed when not using it ), so i have no idea how this could happen. i take good care of the laptop . the cuts are near the alienware logo so they are always noticable. also on the corner of the laptop near the dvd burner, i notice paint chipping. what will alienware do , if anything to fix this issue? i thought this was a strong material on the chasis. i am aware of 500 doller budget laptops that would hold up better than this. :(

the chance is that they might charge you for a new chassis, if you decide to send it in.

i remember someone posting about the scratches when the m15x were first recieved. we came to the conclusion that the rubber pieces on the lcd screen were not thick enough to seperate the two surfaces (lcd and keyboard) from touching each other with pressure. most likely somehow, most likely in your bag there were pressure on your m15x and the two surfaces were touching each other.

i have had my m15x since april and there is still no scratches or paint chipping. at least not yet.

That really sucks. I guess it only happens to a few people. Some people that bought it when it first came out still don't have any problems, I've heard some say that theirs still looks new. If you PM one of the Alienware reps on the forum, I'm sure they can help you get your chassis fixed, not too many people have had that problem so far, and it would really suck if it's starting now.

im pretty much done with the m15x. this was just the icing on the cake of dissapointment

    - poor game performance in crysis, fsx, and several other later titles
    - too big and heavy to use as anything besides a desktop replacemnt.
    - 1 hour battery life when using 8800
    - downclocking when using battery
    - screen wobbles
    - faulty poor feeling chasis
    -poor speakers
-lack of color option or skullcap at time of purchase
    -random keyboard delays
    - other reasons i forgot
-all the issues i had with it but labored when i should not have had to when puchsing a $3k laptop (downclocking when on power cord, sleep issues, alien fx issues, drivers issues, etc) i should have just got an asus eee pc 500 and wrote alienware on the cover with a sharpie. now that would have been a stable machine!

    sorry just venting.

the scratches are only on the hinge :/. i wonder what could of caused that since there is a space between the lcd and the hinge. i dont think the lcd is rubbing against the hinge since we would feel it when we open the lcd.

Game performance with the 8800M GTX should be great in Crysis and FSX. Try turning off any power saving settings, and run Crysis high at 1440x900 in DX9. 1.3" thick and 7 pounds isn't that big... Try using SmartBay for double the battery life and StealthMode for a lot more. All of the other problems have been fixed and improved in all of the newer m15xs that shipped, except for bad speakers. Try to get Alienware to give you a new chassis.

downclocking when using batteries is a normal issue all laptops face. at least all the laptops that i have come across downclock on battery. i dont really think its a con unless its only specfically the m15x.

be carefully when Heathkidd drop in, he's gonna think either they are all little-to-nothing issues, or it is all your own fault to have such problems.

Those scratches seem to have been done by yourself if they weren't there when it was shipped? You could have closed your lid with something lying on the keyboard and scratching against the top lid etc.? I usually put a soft "blanket" thingy on my keyboard everytime i close my laptop to avoid damages like those.

I understand what i said is controversial but the paint cant just have jumped off, something must have touched it and peeled it off as they look like scratches to me.

sure the corner paint was probally the zipper of my neoprone case, but the inside scrathing seems impossible.

Yeah, it does seem impossible that the notebook did that itself. You sure that you didn't scratch it by accident or that someone else used it and scratched it by accident? Like you said, I don't think there's a way the notebook did that itself.
