Occasionally I hear a clicking noise when using the laptop, kind of like a switch being turned on off or a popping noise every once in awhile. The laptop itself however functions perfectly so is this a concern, or is it normal?

i think someone's reported "clicking" on the left side of the keyboard while typing. is it the same thing in your case?

PS: i believe the first person this happened to fixed it by forcing the keyboard down a bit on the left side (or did it just go away? not sure anymore...). :D

I believe that's the hard drive. I never heard it on the m15x but always on the m1530.

It does not matter if I am typing, it seems to happen mostly while playing games though I think, I am not absolutely sure. It could just be the fan kicking into high speed or something.

    -EDIT

Ah thanks for the info iElSayed, I got the 500 GB hard drive so maybe because of its size the clicking is audiable, but still I am unsure.

It happens a lot on the m1530; it has a 250GB 5400rpm Western Digital hard drive. But I can't hear it on the m15x which has a 200GB 7200rpm Hitachi hard drive. What brand is your 500GB hard drive Agatius? and is the sound coming from around the touch pad area? (the hard drive is under the touch pad)

    I lol'd.

@iElSayed I believe it is coming from the touchpad area, or a little bit to the northeast of it. BUT, since I have had no problems with this laptop so far, I am guessing it is just like what you stated with your m1530, just a talkative harddrive =P.

I think your experiencing the problem with the Audio per the New X34 Bios. You say you where playing games? Have you tried to also play mp3's or watch movies? if you keep hearing tht popping sound its because of latest BIO. U can downgrade if it bothers you or wait for fix if thats the case.

that might be as well. but i think the x34 causes more of a "popping" than a "clicking"...

When I had mine it would do the exact same thing but would also beep right after the clicking sound. It sounded similar to a POST beep but it would do it randomly 5-6 times a day. Like you said though no performance issues or anything, so I paid no attention to it.

It's more than likely the hard drive. It comes from the heads being parked in the drive assembly. It used to be a big complaint with hitachi drives but happens to other drives as well. I used to have it bad on a previous dell. There used to be a hitachi utility you could download to set the acoustics and performance level on the drive to change how loud the clicking would be but I don't know if it's still around. Actually, now that I think about it, I used the utility to modify the acoustics on a hitachi drive I had last year in the m9700 and it made a noticeable difference. I don't think other manufacturers give you that type of low level modification on their drives. What's the manufacturer?

    Agatius,

Please send me a PM with your account number. This sounds like a hard drive issue but we would like to confirm this.

    Thank you
