I am thinking of buying m15x but I am very concern with its weight. I am VERY picky when it comes to notebook dimension and weight. In fact, it is the first and foremost important aspect for me when purchasing a notebook.

How much EXACTLY does it weigh without the battery and power supply?
A postal scale will help to determine the weight. This thing will need to be moved around on the desk so weight is very important.

What is the thickness of the notebook at its thickest point?

    wow, you're not demanding.

not too many people are going to have a weighscale that's large enough and accurate enough to do what you're asking....

the best you could get is someone who can give it to you at the nearest lb. and you can get better than that from AW.

unless you're proposing that we take our laptops to the post office just to use their scale? which I think would be a lot to ask.

The nearest tenth of a pound is OK. Their 7 pounds spec is already pass my limit but I am wondering if the weight could be a lot lighter without the battery and power supply.

It depends on the specs completely...

I'm not sure how the specs matter... about the only component that would ADD or REMOVE weight would be the Turbo Memory.... and that's less than 1/10th of a lb.

he's talking without the battery. I'm pretty sure all ram chips are aprox. the same weight, and there's still coolers on both sides (with the heatpipes) and a negligable difference between the GPU coolers (different for the 8600/8700 and 8800)... I doubt the GPU cards are different weights, same with CPU weight.

so I really don't see where the difference would lie.

unless you wanna take out the CD-ROM (Smart Bay device)... that would lighten things up noticably...

I'd guess that it would be around six and a half pounds, I don't think anyone's actually going to weigh theirs.

The specs DO matter because even if the differences to some may be negligible, to this poster it seems that every ounce matters... so a difference in GPUs, what you do with smart bay, even what sound card you get matters...

He is steaming off his frustration. Let's be a bit understanding please.
But yes, there are better ways to make your point. I'm sure that once he cools down, he will be taking other measures.

Keep your head cool and may your answer be swift and painful! :)

If I had a M15x I could weigh it for you right now and have an answer in 10 minutes. Here is how to weigh a notebook.

    1. Weigh yourself on a scale
    2. Weigh yourself + notebook on scale
    3. Subtract difference
    4. You have the weight
    5. Do it 3 times for accuracy

    :)

Honestly dude your question is becoming a little suspicious. Why would you need to know the exact weight of the system unless you are doing something weird with it. I do not know anyone who needs an exact weight of a system

I'm going to say its going to be used for something illegal but that's kind of a jump.

What do you think he's up to? Beat someone over the head with it?

I'm actually rather curious as to why he's need to be that precise, but I didn't think it would be for nefarious purposes.

Yeah he doesn't know exactly, that's why he said ALMOST... but I know what he means... maybe he is gonna steal a bunch and needs to know the weight for shipping prices. ;) lol

    Who knows...

maybe he wants to calculate shipping by himself for some reason. thats the most logical thing i can think of. either that or he can use it in a formula to see much force a person would be hit with if he threw the m15x out the window if it breaks.

I am a bit obsessive compulsive and mind you, unlike other brands, Alienware do not sell through third party retailers, so I have no way of trying it before purchasing. Had they sold through third party brick and mortar store, I would have no need to ask for weight with a postal scale. I would just lift the notebook myself and judge whether it is too heavy for me.

Alienware seem to pay very little attention to the dimension and weight of their notebooks. Other vendors, like Sony, do a much better job.

mybe he wants to use it on the Air Plane. Now luggage is payed by how heavy it is.

Best idea is ask to talk to Alienware tech.

1 you need the battery to be moble. If you dont have the battery you new the Power Brick. Which adds to the weight

2 It depends on what type of hardware. Like some hard drives and such. Like solid state drives and so on.

3 Is this with or with out the Hotswap bay battery or Cdrom or hard drive. or nothing?

Fact this laptop not like other laptops. Best idea is grab something that is 7lb and go ok that how heavy the laptop is.
