i was looking into getting a cooler for my m15x when i get it. I was wondering how the fans on the m15x worked.

does it suck in air at the bottom or does it blow it out? does it suck from the bottom and blow out from the sides?

    thanks guys

Sucks from bottom, blows from rear... Quite inefficiently, if I may add.

If it sucked from the bottom, when on a flat surface how could it take in air? The surface would block it.. unless it has legs :p

Notebook cooling fans can't damage the internals as usually they're pretty weak. Problem is some coolers aren't uniform with the bottom of the laptop (ie some are in funny shapes) hence the pegs of the lappie will no longer be elevating the laptop. Which results in the fan ports (bottom) being blocked, hence air can't be sucked in.

I think that if it can't work without a cooler, then it has a serious problem.

So your saying it has little pegs on the underneath to stop it the fans from being blocked therefore stop it overheating?
I've seen a vast amount of pictures and have never seen that.

small pegs. most laptops suck from underneath. there isnt much ground clearance but its enough to suck in air. I just wanted something to maximize the cooling cause in general i dont think laptops do a good job of staying cool.

I use a rosewill cooler and mostly so that it doesn't burn my lap (since atm I don't have a comp table). I use the 8700 rather than the 8800 atm and even when I am playing The Witcher at max, it still runs cool.

They are right that a good laptop should not need a cooler to run the way it is supposed to. I had an awful toshiba experience and my macbookpro used to run extremely hot.

I only recommend one if you want it for your lap or an adjustable one to tilt the laptop for you if you prefer it.

Yes it does have legs tall ones makeing the profile of the lappy not a low as the pics make it out to be. My consern is sometimes I use my lappy from bed thus using it on a pillow or on lap, meaning not on a hard surface; I'm thinkinf its blocking most of the vents source of air. Is this going to kill my pc?

it will heat the laptop up faster and the laptop can get to higher temperatures. but since you are probably not playing games the temps should not get too high i think. as long as you use integrated while you are in your bed i think you should be fine. im also assuming your laptop is unplugged which means your laptop will be running slower, which helps with cooler idle temperatures.

it has like 0.3 inch high feet. 4 of them...

sucking from the bottom is used in the majority of notebooks only ones i can think otherwize is the macbookpros that suck from the top which sucks for dust...

I will say look at the Reviews on Notebookreviews. About laptop coolers and Even if you dont need one Get one. Every laptop I have has a laptop cooler.

Here why. Laptop cooler keep the laptop cool. Even on Low power. Which in turn save power.

I have 3 laptops a Centerno duo 1.6ghz. To a P4 3.4 EE with L3 cache Desktop replacement and a Core 2 2.33 ghz. the core 2 and P4 use heat Pipping Laptop cooler. Which Both Laptops run around 60c to 65c. Running High end games.

It is standard on most laptops, even my tiny Latitude D420. I notice that my D610 also has a raised grill on the air intake which helps give some clearance for airflow.

any standard 15inch cooler will do. usually on the cover it wil say what size of laptop it can accommodate.

Theres not much side intake notebooks these days.. I still think those would be more effective than bottom intake.

yer prob with base intake is no use on lap :( which sucks..

going to be hard to have to always use a book or switch to intergrated when i use my m15x on a lap :(

i guess if i put one leg in the mid as to not block the the grills on ether side it may be ok... shrugs.

I do have a laptop cooler my Mom uses on one of my old laptops that work great on the lap. Xpad4Laptop.com. It will still get warm. Like the top of a normal laptop keyboard. No fan or anything it just give a bigger grap between the laptop and the the cooler.
