    Hi all im new to the forum. I have lurked around for a long time though and I decided to go ahead and make an account. So I have wanted an alienware computer ever since I heard about the company back in middle school. Well im in college now and I have never really had a gaming PC that can handle...well anything really. So on september first I was so excited to order my brand new m15x! Brief specs: 8800m gtx, 2.8ghz processor, 250gig HDD, 720p screen,4 gig ram, and 120gig smartbay. I know all that is pricey but my finance aid from college actually covered some of it!
    Anyways to get to the point, im still in phase 4 which i know takes a long time but its been over 23 days. I call alienware a couple times a week to see whats up and the first time i call they say the 8800m is on backorder. I was annoyed but I understood that it happens. Called again and they said the HDD was on backorder. waited some more. Called again a week later and they said the smartbay wasnt working ( now he told me it wasnt the computers smart bay slot that was messed up but the actual smart bay hard drive it self. )
    I call again today ( few days later ) and they tell me the video card is on backorder again!
    At this point im annoyed and I want to get the full story because they always tell me a part is ready then its on backorder again. Every time i call its a different story. I already canceled the smart bay HDD because the guy told me that it would postpone my order for another 2 weeks. So im just going to order one later once i get my computer.
    Now remember I ordered this on the 1st and its already been a month, and the guy told me today that the estimated ship date would be OCT 10. I trust that alienware is doing there job but I think they need to work on getting there assembly process improved. I know that was more of a rant but I know someone will listen :D . One more quick note: i asked about the hinge problem and I told him how many reviews I have read about it and he said that they have never even gotten a complaint about the issue.. thats all im going to say.     hah! same crap that I'm going thru, no problem with the system just HD backorder then 8800 backordered. Back and forth over and over again.

    yes but im worried about the smart bay thing.. think about it. if it was just a problem with the bay itself wouldnt they just use a different one? Or maybe They only have one to work on since everything else is on back order. =D

    as ive said many many times, it sounds like one department doesnt know what the other one is doing. or they are not allowed to admit it to another customer.

    well hes helped out some others in the past.
    at least he can go to the source to find out whats actually on back order and holding the build up.

    funny thing is he told me the 8800gtx wasn't on backorder and i that i was waiting on a 120g sb. So I upgraded to the 250 and now the 8800gtx is on backorder. Ya he's real helpful

    new status: now instead of being on phase 4 i have moved back to phase 3....... i hear this happens sometimes but its really annoying!

    well i was told oct 10th also, and I placed my order I believe sept 10th lets see who gets there laptop first lols.

    the phase page is totally fooked but people do say when they go backwards they then shoot forwards not long after so good luck.

    **update: It seems everything is working out now since i did shoot up to phase 5 as MrDJ said .

    I submitted my order for my M17x on September 4 ( i think will check when i am at work on Monday) And mine shipped today! I received my tracking number and everything!

    Yeah, it works out great. No problems so far though you might want to expect fairly low 3DMark06 scores (around 5000-6000?). I'm sure it might just be the OS that is influencing that score though since I really have no problem playing games. Performance still feels great in-game.

    Also another thing to keep in mind. You may want to update your graphics drivers once you get your notebook. The stock drivers are pretty buggy and are known to cause some BSODs. I'll help you with that later when you receive your notebook.

    thats crazy! im sure it will be okay. You can help me with what drivers and stuff i need because honestly im pretty noobish when it comes to that stuff
