Hi this is my first time posting in this forum as ive been having a few troubles with my m15x laptop and nowhere else i go seems to be able to help.
So i did a system restore a few days ago on my m15x (which i got around may last year) and reinstalled windows, ofcourse wiping all my data form teh computer which i had already backed up. But what i didnt not realise is taht alot of the drivers would be missing aswell. So i looked through the manual and found that i had to use the master cd to restore the missing drivers after a system restore. So i used it... and it just gave me more system restore and back up options when i used it from start up and then when i put the cd in when my laptop was already on it came up with the options to install a few video drivers which i tried to install but it said i already had them and some sound and some thing to do with a tv (???) so thats left me stumped and this is annoying as of my system restore i have not been able to play any games at all, as i get a pop up saying something about either:
"failed to find a suitable display device"
which ive heard means something cant recognise my video card or something which im not really sure about.
or
"please make sure you have directx 9.0 or higher installed
(which i do i have directx 10 or at least my dxdiag says i do).
Also make sure your video card meets the minimum requirements,
(which it must do as ive played this game for years and my other games have run fine on the same laptop, unless there are some drivers i need to install, even though ive installed all the drivers that the alienware website has recommended for me and the ones which have worked, which many havnt, have done nothing)
and that you do not have your hardware acceleration disabled in the display control panel
(which i definintely dont as ive already checked that myself.
Other problems im having is that my alienware control center is playing up and not recognising the keyboard so that remains dark, and also this means i cannot switch with that binary graphics (fn + f7) thing which i believe may have something to do with it. So if anyone has any advice or has seen this happen before please can you help out. here is what my dxdiag says about a few things if that comes in handy to anyone:

So if anyone can draw anything together it would be much appreciated as half my laptop seems completely useless without said drivers or whatever. thankyou for your time ^^ and if theres any more information you need from me to help then please ask.
Also just editing to say im pretty sure im on vista 32 so none of the vista 64 problems that people have are important here, although i do have a bad memory.

Well upon inspecting the device manager in related areas i looked under:
display adapters - which only came up with Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
which seems like something is wrong there. even though i know i have video drivers installed although wether they are the right ones or not im not sure as ive tried so many now its hard to keep track.
I dont know if theres anything else in the device manager you recommend i should look at or you need the information from to help so just say if you need any kind of information from my laptop. But apart from that everything else seems to be normaly but im no expert in computers i just know how to get my way around them really. :/ -
I'm surprised that Armando gave such an unhelpful response. you need nVidia drivers, grab the newest drivers for your system from MyHive on the Alienware site, if you'd like something newer use laptop video 2 go, hit up the forums and grab 180.48 with the modded INF.
copy the INF to the install folder for the driver before running setup.
once the drivers are properly installed, your video card should work fine.
for the fn+ f7 (BinaryGFX) to work, be sure you have the OCD application installed... the problem is, it needs to be installed FIRST (before Command Centre), so you'll probably need to uninstall the CC, install the OCD application, then reinstall CC. switch to integrated using fn+f7 and when on integrated graphics, then install the intel video drivers.
good luck. -
alright. thanks a lot for the help, seriously. lets just hope i can do it correctly. ill get back to you on the outcome of my attempts
although it might take some time to find my myhive details...
