How come Alienware charges insane amounts for the upgrades of graphics cards? I have a 8700 GT in my m15x notebook, i called the other day about possibly upgrading, they gave me a quote for the 9800 and they said it would cost about $530 dollars! is it normal for graphics cards to be this much? I've bought desktop cards in the past that were half that didn't think notebook cards would be this much. Help?

Yep. Laptop cards aren't your normal desktop counterparts.
This things are specially made for the laptops manufacturer and tend to get pricey.
You could try ebay or wait for someone to post one in the b/s/t forum. -

wow when I asked a month or so ago they wanted 400 or so. Either way better off going for a new machine which is what I will eventually do for now though I have 3 machines a 15 inch a netbook and a desktop

So If i look on ebay it has to be a 9800m from an Alienware x15m in order for it to fit correctly right? because all i see on there right now are ASUS and a few others. Just making sure, let me know pls!
