    Hi everyone,

My m15x, which I've had for around 1.5 years now, simply stopped turning on about 30 minutes ago. I'm not sure why this is. I've tried unplugging, taking out the battery, and simply pressing the power button repeatedly. The light under the power button comes on when it's plugged in, but the computer will not turn on. What can I do? I need the computer badly over the next couple of weeks, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there another way to turn it on?

    Thanks,
    Krishen

8700m...And now it turns on for like two seconds, then turns itself off again.

    that's a G84 core isn't it?

That is a known faulty GPU. Search google and you will see.

So that is one thing to check, maybe your GPU is dead.
    Is it removable?

Some people have fixed their bad nvidia GPUs with the oven trick.

Basically the solder is bad, it cracks so then there is a bad connection to the motherboard.

BGA reflowing (oven trick) can fix the problem.

    Or BGA reworking / reballing.

You can try a heat gun from a hardware store, set it to 300C and heat up the GPU for a few mins. Make sure the motherboard is lead free though.
Youtube has lots of videos about this.

But this might not be the problem in your case.
Did you have any graphics issues recently? were your temps high?

EDIT: warranty? they might have a free extended warranty for the bad nvidia GPU problem.

if you still have warranty you should call customer support. If not im guessing its the gpu. If it is the gpu then its semi good news because you can still use the laptop. All you have to do it open up the laptop and remove the nvidia 8700. The m15x will now only boot with the intel x3100. You can try to fix the gpu at a later date since you will need the laptop for a while
