It can range from 11000 to 17000. You aren't even specifing a CPU. They could have configured lots of mice and speakers to bring it up to $4200.

oh wow.. don't base anything off of WEI. BUT, with an x9100 you'll be @ 5.7 WEI, the CPU the only thing holding it back, everything else 5.9 - With a QX9300 then everything will pin out at 5.9 across the board. Well..assuming you have a decent HDD and 4GB of decent RAM.

Look at my signature..(same rig as the M17) it will link you to 3dmark Vantage and 3dmark06 for benchmarks using this system. Details are in sig/benchmarks. This things a beast Oh..side note - I overclocked my system to get those scores.. so expect a little less from the stock system from AW. The x9100 and the qx9300 both score about 14k 3dmark06 stock.

 

thanks dude. My m15x got a little less than 10,000 3DMARK06 stock and since then i have added 4GB of Kingston RAM as apposed to my 1GB stock and the Timings are 4-4-4-12

do you think the m17 with either the standard processor or the 2.5ghz and the CrossFire with 4GB of RAM is a good config? how much benefit will you see between the standard and the 2.5ghz dual core?

 

I got my M17 just a couple of days ago and brand new I got 13401 3Dmarks. I have a QX9300 and dual 3870. On Windows Index my system has 5.9 but as E-wrecked said... forget that test...

 

The Test on W7 realized a difference betwen non Raid and Raid0

And 3DMarko06 makes truble like: first run > second run > 3. (how do you call it? )

I buy the lowest M17 configuration with dual ATI´s, upgrade only illuminated keyboard and Intel 5300 card!

Then i upgraded myself a QX9300, 4GB DDR3 Ram Crucial and my old drives Samsung 64Gb SLC SSD + WD 320Gb Black Scorpio!

My 3DMark06 Score is 16537, link in my Sig, second place behind E-Wrecked!

Hmm.. very nice la.ultima props to ya.. No need for SSDs here. I'm not dropping that loot for a score. Cause that's all it would really be. I have 2 solid WDs I am happy with However.. I will indulge in RAID and bump my score a few points.

The OP obviously is the one getting ripped. Gateway P-708u's can be acquired for like $1200 and can score in the 9500s range.

yessir...3dmark, but I'm using 64 bit Vista...not sure if it makes a difference.....

 

what is that line on the back lower end of the lid, on the M17? it has been bugging me for some time now.

 

The M1730 is a pimp notebook, no doubt. The problem is that it's outdated, and there are no upgrades available. The M17 is projected to receive the ATI 4870s, if I'm not mistaken. Trust me, I drooled over the M1730 for a long time. By the time I could afford one though, there were better options. Both can hold their own, IMO.


The little line you are speaking of has a couple of status LEDs. One is for battery power, the other if you're on AC power. Just to let you know what's going on if the lid is closed.

Yeah, you could I guess. I run programs that don't like power interruptions too much, so I find it useful. Sometimes I accidentally plug my AC adapter into the laptop but not the wall. The only way I'd ever know is from the amber lid LED. But to every man his own.

I've gotta say, even with all of the OOOHS and AAAHS I get from this Alienware, that M1730 is a sexy machine. Do you have the one in your photo? I just can't believe how much it still costs compared to the more powerful M17. Like Dell even cares. They own Alienware.

 

lol i thought it was funny they cost so much i liked the look but not the price for parts plus the AW section is wayyyy better lol .....i think the SLI will outscore in games ..certain ones i wish the AW came in colors again miss that
