dude I'm glad you like your rig....it seems to work pretty good, next generation when we're upgrading our gpu's and cpu's and you're not you may end up realizing that you paid top dime for a machine that is a generation old...just for kicks I'm going to install vista 32 bit and see how mine runs 3dmark06 on that....

    fact - xps m1730 < m17

can anyone who has an M17 with the Dual HD 3870's give me a picture of their GPU-Z program with it? I just want to see what that has to say.

And do you think that the M17 will get the new HD 4870's this march? i have been reading about them coming out, and i think it will happen. Do you think they will cost the same or more? I hear they are cheaper to make than the current HD 3870.
    Thank You!

no the 3870 price will be lowered a bit and the 4870's will be about 25-50 more then the 3870's now not much though ...and the whitebook has been confirmed to support the 48xx. AW has pretty much hinted and stuff just say they dont know , dont have a release date , r&d is working on it but they would be crazy to be the only white book reseller not to have them

have you ran a crysis benchmark on your M17? with my m15x with the T8100 4GB CL4 RAM and 9800mGT i get 25-30 fps average on all settings HIGH with physics very high. very smooth, never see any hickups. so if your config can do that or better, that would be awesome!

    thank you

Hard to make any real comparison without knowing what resolution you're running.

they came out with a driver update for my card, and now i get noticably better performance in ALL of my games, and suprisingly, even start up, by about 10 seconds.
went from crysis with settings at high and physics at max 1440 x 900 with 20-25fps, no hicups
    to this
all settings high, shaders, shadows, physics, post processing on max 1440 x 900. i swear it never goes lower than 23-25. and probably averages around 28-30.

i have never understood why people seem to hate 25fps. movies and tv run at 25fps, your eye cant tell 20 and up, it all looks the same. smooth. as long as you can get between 20 and 30, you are all set.

mary just, are you referring to 185.20 (laptopvideo2go), or 179.48 (nvidia)?

Common mistake. Looks is one thing, feels is another thing. Aiming accurate with 60 fps and aiming accurate with 25 fps, i cant even describe how huge the difference is. I cant even play games with less than 40 fps

For that price range, get a Killernotebook with Dual 4870 (comming soon) and Quad Extreme and 8 gb ram (running Vista 64) and Raid 0 SSD Drive. And you will get drivers update 10 times more ofthen than with Alienware 12+ months wait ...

it doesnt matter when alienware releases drivers, as long as the new drivers work with your config. although the alienware ones give you better performance versus the nvidia ones of teh same name. but the newer ones are better then the older alienware ones. but when alienware releases the new drivers ill download em cuz they will be slightly better optimized.
