Also add the JMicron JMB36x Drivers to your driver's list, these are the eSATA drivers. The one's AW supplies do not work with all external hard drives.

OK, let's assume for a moment that I'm an idiot... :)

Should I just run down the list, making sure each of these is what I have?

The graphics drivers - is there a difference between drivers needed for single card vs crossfire systems?

Install order should be Intel Chipset, Intel Matrix (if you use raid), Sound, Graphics followed by the others if needed.

Single vs dual cards is the same driver.

I haven't updated my RealTek Drivers from the ones AW provided when installed. At one point Alienware had Quad Core owners uninstall both sound and video drivers, and then reinstall them in a certain order thinking that it would fix the Stuttering issue, but beyond that I've heard of no issues with the Realtek drivers.

Hi guys, I discovered that for now it's best to stick with the AW Realtek drivers. Reason for this is that I discovered with the bog standard Realteks, the EQ etc weren't working, and if you went into Windows audio properties, you'd get a warning about an issue.

This didnt happen with the AW drivers, and tbh there were no noticeable improvements in audio quality, so I saw no reason to upgrade.
For this reason, I'd stick with AW on this one, unlike graphics drivers it'll rarely make a difference to your gameplay beyond working or not!

I use Vista 64 bit btw, best OS I've used in years, am waiting til official release to get into W7.

In the catalyst control center, if you have 9.8 or later it will be under Graphics->Graphics Software.

So aparently they figured out that I had a not kosher copy haha, the patch would not install and when I actually tried playinga blu ray, it would not read the disk (think that is Win 7 though - first time trying to play blu ray since loading Win 7)

Loaded up the version off the Dell Resource Disk and it works fine though in Win 7 :)

Downloading patch for THAT one now, the file (from cyberlink) is titled alienware.xxx so that is neat I thought

Yes, otherwise the drivers won't install which is what happened to you and why it still shows 8.52. Read the instructions on that website i linked above (about 2/3 down the page) to Mob Mod your drivers.

Seen as Moo no longer has an M17 and may no longer want to update drivers in a old thread shouldnt this thread be started again by somebody else with an M17??

My vote goes to you Marvie.....LOL (I would make a mess of it)

This is just a suggestion and has only been made in the best interests of M17 owners wanting a thread with the latest Win7 drivers.
If I had a M17X I dont think I would be updating old M17 threads also.

Funny you should mention that, I've already been considering doing this myself. My only holdup is that in a month I'll be leaving for home finally and I'm not sure how much I'll be trolling the NBR after that. I'll probably go ahead and get it started anyway, as I certainly plan on keeping this laptop for a while.

I'd start the driver thread but I'm honestly not fussed about any drivers on my system except the graphics driver.

Out of interest does the chipset driver make any difference to performance? I might update it if it does.

Google the 9.8 Hotfix and mobility mod. Its got minor issues but is better than 9.9. You could also try the 9.10 betas or the 9.11 opencl betas and mob mod those.
