So I just ordered the x9100 from AW (yeah, nuts I know buying an OEM chip from the actual retailer.. but it was not bad at all $450, which gives me a 90 day warranty vs $300 on ebay, for most likely an engineering sample or questionable item as to whether or not it had been oc'd. At least this one is a VIRGIN :)

ANYWAYS, because of this, the OEM t9500 that is coming with my laptop (I dont have it yet) will be sold to subsidize my x9100 purchase.

What does the m17 have for a socket PGA478 or BGA479?

that way I know what type of T9500 I have, and can sell it on ebay :)

It will be PGA478 rather then BGA479,
PGA - Pin Grid Array / BGA - Ball Grid Array, The latter is soldered onto the board so i would assume PGA.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong as i don't have an m17, but i highly doubt the m17s processor isn't changable. :p

If you can take it out of the socket it's PGA.

hmmm....I always called them Socket P going back to Santa Rosa.

When listing the T9500 on eBay just list the Intel specs.

Mandrake will know, but, socket P is is 'PGA478', and so if when you did your swap, there were 'pins' and not a flat surface on the chip, then its pga479

HOWEVER my idiot alienware tech said its BGA479, BUT IT TOOK him like 30 minutes for that answer, so I certainly didnt trust him to get it right.

If I just list it on ebay, people will ask if its pga, or bga if they are smart enough to know their is a difference. if you look now, you will see that most of the chips can come as either, just like the t9500: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33918

So Mandreak, could you please just confirm that yours had pins, when you upgraded it?

    Thanks!
