going to sell my hdd in my laptop but i dont want to lose the system partition.
is it possible to data destroy only a partition and not the whole thing? if so what program? thanks

yes but can you make it so data is unrecoverable?

Only possible way to do that is degauss the whole thing. I'm guess your looking for a dban program that does partitions only and I don't know of one. Then again I haven't played with dban in a while maybe there are some new options.

Anything is recoverable.
Even 0 format the hd 7 times, people can still recover it.
It depends how hard do you want to make it to be recoverable.
Usually, format and delete partition is good enough unless you got very sensitive information in there.
If not, google 0 format, which is to write 0s all over the drive which takes a long time compare to format. That should be enough to stop non-physical based recovery.
