Hey, I'm getting ready to go to college in the fall and I've recently purchased the m17 laptop. Gaming aside can I get some opinions on how this laptop performs in a college setting, both technically and practically. One particular area of concern is the flashy logo with the skullcap design being a distraction to the class. Will my professor dislike it? Will I be getting smug attitude from fellow classmates? That issue aside I am eager to hear all of your opinions and feedback on the m17 in a college setting.

I will be at the local community college driving from home for the first two years and then transferring to another college and living on campus. (Preferably RIT but lord knows what the future holds.)

Another thing about the M17 in an enviroment where you need to keep noise to a minimum is the loud fans :).

Aside the loud fans, i think the logo will surely be distracting...maybe you can disable it? Im not sure..otherwise some ducktape will do :D lol

Oh dear, the fans are loud even when not gaming? Perhaps I can change them via bios when I'm not going to game =\

Well the longer its on, the hotter is gets, the faster the fans spin...i am quite used to it already but i could imagine the people sitting next to you would be slightly annoyed :).

Haha yeah not to mention it gifting them with a constant stream of hot air. I heard the fans reached up to 50db but I figured upon purchase they wouldn't be too loud if I wasn't running anything save wordpad or notepad++

I use this laptop for college everyday. Whenever I am in lecture hall I tone down the screen brightness, as a courtesy to my classmates. The screen on full brightness would be distracting without a doubt in a darkened lecture hall. I think overall this laptop was designed very sleekly and professionally, it has garnered alot of positive attention thus far, and no the alienhead logo doesn't distract anyone, mostly the only time people see it is when people are getting antsy and look behind them in boredom and all of sudden stop their heads when they try to figure what the hell's on my laptop cover lol. Also the blue keyboard backlight is PERFECT IMO in lecture hall, very deep and relaxing blue, pleasantly and doesn't distract me and my classmates. The only time I got a smug attitude was when I was in the library, the only seat left was across from, low and behold a fat slightly crabby guy with a DELL XPS 17130 and shot me suspicious, strange looks when I pulled it out, he was playing WoW however, told me all I needed to know about his character :p.

professors will be jealious and as far as the smug looks take them in stride because thay dont have it :D

it has like 2 hours and 30 minutes of battery life

its not loud as long as your not gaming...but class does get boring

I bought m15x because I want mobility and relief on the weight.
But I always wonder how is it like to carry around with m17 and does it have a stealth mode like in m15x?
