hey guys im having a major problem with my brand new freakin M17 notebook.
i am confused because i shelled out $3000 for it and it lags like no other
i mean it cant even play the first Halo on the thing with it lagging and then inevitably freezing up
and i dont even want to see what its like playing the stupid thing online.
im just mad lol
i downloaded the newest driver for my graphics card which was recommended by the service rep
and it didnt help at all
im at a loss
it cant even play music without slowing down significantly
so much for the quad core processor and 4 GB of RAM
Im new on this forum by the way it looks pretty sweet
my notebook includes the quad core processor at 2.26Ghz
with dual ATI Radeon HD 3870 with crossfire
4 GB of RAM
with Vista 32 bit
any help would be appreciated guys
peace and merry xmas eve

Try restarting it, it will go away after restart. I have the same problem it happens when you put it to sleep!

Download 3DMark 06 and post your benchmarks, that way we can tell if something is out of place. With the quad (rated 2.53Ghz, by the way) you should be scoring around 13,600-13,700.

dammit i just closed the screen but the CPU sucked
it had a score of 3,000 and i have no idea what that means -
Lessthanadrianocho Notebook Enthusiast
2.53 is the extreme or whatever which was like an extra $400 -
check your power setting and make sure its set to perfromance.

i attached the results of 3dmark06

go to catalyst control center as well and check the power settings in there. also check out you graphics settings. your card scores should be much higher. id be hitting 14k or more with your processor.
-
also, it looks like you opted for the single card if im not mistaken from what your 3d mark info shows, so maybe your scores are right...
-
Dam I thought it would be higher than that? You running on battery power or is it plugged?
-
Yeah those scores are normal for that system since the 2.26Ghz is pulling you down.

naw i got the dual card...and during the CPU test i think the max FPS was like 2
wth???? -
-
Lessthanadrianocho Notebook Enthusiast
i dont think its the graphics cards
the service rep took control of the notebook and set it all to maximum performance and she couldnt figure anything out and told me just to download the newest drivers and 3dmark06
hahaha this sucks man -

Score seems normal to me, and the 1-2FPS during the CPU test in 3DMark 06 is also normal. The test is designed to push your CPU to its absolute limit and keep it there long enough to get a very accurate picture of the capability of your processor.
Topic creator, install E-wreck's modified ATI drivers and post your benchmarks afterward. You shouldn't expect a huge bump from them, but enough to push your score past the 12,000 mark. By the way, what 3DMark score did Alienware get when they tested your laptop?

Alas, we've beaten this one down.
My clocks are about 0.3 faster than yours and I scored 13,700.

i mean theres no doubt that my computer sucks right now
for reasons unknown -
Lessthanadrianocho Notebook Enthusiast
and the CPU score was just shy of 3,000 -
Hang in there guy it will all come together.

If you haven't removed any icons from your desktop, you should have one that says My PC Information. Inside that in the Burn-In Tests section is your 3DMark 06 score as posted by Alienware. Tell us what it is.

You guys should consider 64 bit. Its said, that it takes advantage of the crossfire and or sli. I would of assumed higher scores with the quads

That's quite a difference, but the good news is you destroyed Alienware's tests by a huge margin! LOL!
I think it's been mentioned already in the thread, but check your PC's system information (Programs/Accessories/System Tools). Make sure you have two listings of ATI Radeon HD3870 there to prove to yourself that you've got Crossfire.

I would open her up and do a visual homeboy!

itll get worse i dont want alienware to eliminate any chance i have of a refund -
Refund? Best of Luck Im outa here........
-
Just have them swap the CPU and upgrade to 64 no need to refund or get a new one. Would be much faster waiting for another to be built.

Download and install GPU-Z. Check to see what temps you're getting and if you have Xfire or not.
