After browsing these forums for a few weeks all I see is complaints about the R2s, it seems hard to determine how many of the laptops are good or bad that they send out. I'm wondering how many people here got an R2 with no issues at all, sent correctly and functioning as intended?

I have low hopes for my machine once it gets here, but I know that you are more likely to post about issues than you are if everything is perfect. So someone please boost my confidence, I hope to see many machines working properly with not flickering, bad graphics, etc. :)

edit: Title should be M17x R2, oops >.<

I Got an R1 and the only real problem i have is sometimes the HDD siezes up but thats faulty hardware, not alienwares fault. It hasn't even bugged me enough to call them about it. Its just a quick 30 second reboot and im good to go.

This hasn't happened to me for about a week now i think? Its mildly uncommon.

It's probably your Free Fall Sensor is getting activated when you moving the system. Turn it off and it should fix the problem.

Someone is selling an R1 over in the marketplace for 1800 and basically better than a R2 it has a qx9300 6gb ram and xfire 4870's might be worth your looking into. Qx9300 is on par with a i7 820m.

Awaiting my replacement system. I too was hoping for a perfect system, but still got the flickering issue. Maybe the replacement system will be perfect. Who knows.

The reason people come to the forum is because they are searching for an answer to a problem. Most likely googling the problem. As a result, most new posters are having a problem. Think about it. If you didn't have a problem at some point in time, you never would have found the forums. At least that's how I found them. Had a problem, googled it, came to the forum...never left. Lots of people end up here because at somepoint in time, someone else has had the same problem and asked it here. This place is a gold mine of computer knowledge.

    Goldmine is an understatement!! :D

I actually came to be on these forums due to your thread, saved me serious bucks.

However, to address OP I've had ZERO issues with my R2 and loving every minute of it. One seriously sick machine.

Yes indeed DR650SE! I would like to add that I found this site when searching for information/reviews about Alienware laptops... This is also a contributer of souls ;)
And a big plus is the quick response time and usefullness of the posts here!

But on topic again; I loved My R1... It got stolen and now I'm waiting to order my R2! Of which I'm sure is going to be loved by me again.

Same, loving my R2. Not the fastest machine I have ever owned (I have built expensive fast desktops for myself before) but it is definitely the most complete (fast enough video cards, awesome awesome screen, fast enough processors, + sd card, bunch of usb's etc).

Overall spending 2500 on this laptop was a much better purchase than the 2000 I spent on a stupid intel macbook pro a few years ago.

I wouldn't say that it's on par with an R2, there are 2 distinctive issues with that R1. 1) it has a low res screen at 1440 x 900 WLED, and the Quad Core has reported issues on these boards.

Same here, my first R1 had major issues (DPC latency among other little things ). It has since been replaced by an R2 which in my opinion is the best laptop I've ever owned or used in my life.

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to live with the flickering when using both cards.

Yeah i received a loaner system in a box 4 sizes to big and wraped in thin cushion paper and it runs like a champ. Still waiting on the replacment system but as i said the loaner works fine so no complaints.

My r2 was almost perfect. The only issue I had was a noisy GPU fan, but AW promptly sent me a replacement and I was able to replace it myself and now everything is great.

Whoa! How did it get stolen? Were you mugged? Was it taken from your home? On a train? Did you have insurance? Or did you lose like £2000?

I have insurance and they broke into my home. I'm waiting for a 5870 to go with the M17x-r2 right now, then I can blow another 2K+ for this machine. :D
