I got my m17x today. I wanted to use another hard drive that I already had so I put it in and reinstalled Vista. When I installed the Command Center from the CD I got with the laptop, the keyboard lights turned off and the keyboard no longer appears in the Command Centre. I selected "m17x Ripley No Light Pipe" when I installed it, maybe I missed an option for the keyboard? When I reinstall the Command Centre, it no longer asks for the model. I tried removing the registry entries and deleting the folder that was left in Program Files, neither caused it to prompt me again when reinstalling. I don't really want to reinstall Vista again. Has anyone experienced this? Also could someone with an m17x in the UK/Europe tell me what the settings are in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Alienware/Alienware AlienFX" in the registry? Hopefully I can set the right thing in there and it will fix it.

In addition, I tried to get the latest version of the Command Centre and was asked for an account number, I don't know what that is. Is it listed on the invoice? I don't seem to have the card with it on.

    Hi didroe
i cant help you with the m17x problem but can with the account number.
if you didnt get a white credit card with your account details on then contact customer services and ask for one to be sent. it sounds like lately a lot of people have not received the card.
now, on your desktop you should have a document called "my alienware" with all the details of your machine. at the top of this document you will find your account number.
the number is totally different from the one when you ordered and also the one on your invoice bill.
i would have thought it would be a lot easier to have one number for the whole process.

hopefully someone will be along soon to help you out with the command centre problem.

The card would be in your Leather Folder. In the front. But best idea is call alienware.

Unfortunately I reinstalled Vista and didn't copy that document. I will call Alienware tomorrow and request a card be sent to me. I've triple checked and it definately wasn't in the box.

DOH! oh dear. so your only option is to call AW
unless it could be saved on the hidden partition on your harddrive if that wasnt wiped when you done a re install.

If you have not done anything with the frist hard drive. Pop it back in as your main hard drive see if it comes back up.

Call alienware. They should have all the info like credit card debit card, Email and phone number and Address. So getting a new card should be easy.

Please dont freak out. There is a Alienware rep on here. Alienware-Armando PM him and he can help you out.

Thanks for the replies. I will phone them tomorrow and see what they say. Hopefully someone with an m17x will post the registry settings. I'm guessing CS will tell me to reinstall Windows which I really don't want to do.

Phoned CS this morning, they gave me my account number which was the one on the invoice. The reason I thought it wasn't that number is that I couldn't download anything on MyHive. It turns out that their system is crap and the URL should have been alienware.co.uk/... but it was .com. So, any UK (and maybe EU) people that need to download anything from MyHive, remember to edit the URLs.

I tried the latest Command Centre and it still didn't work. Phoned CS and they (like I thought) tried to get me to reinstall the OS. Someone has been kind enough to give me their registry settings and I had selected the correct model. So I phoned them again this afternoon. This time I got some guy that actually had half a clue, he said there should be a keyboard patch on MyHive but I couldn't see it. In the end he used the remote assistance thing to download the file onto my m17x for me. So, anyone doing a reinstall and wondering why the keyboard lights don't work anymore, you need to install the keyboard patch and may not be able to see it on MyHive. They don't even include it on the support CD you get in the box.

The whole MyHive area seems disorganised and pretty broken, maybe it's just the UK version. I'm a bit annoyed at that but at least I have no hardware issues, not yet anyway.

The file is called "m17x_Lighted_Keyboard.exe". You can probably get it by seeing what one of the other links on MyHive looks like and editing it (remember to swap .com for .co.uk as well). If that doesn't work and anyone wants the file, PM me and I'll send you a copy.

The registry setting I was interested in was "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alienware\Alienware AlienFX\Model". I had selected "Ripley No Light Pipe" in the install which resulted in a value of "F17RipleyNLP". One of the CS guys told me I should have selected just "Ripley", I was sceptical about that and rightly so. The correct setting is indeed NLP.

I cant seem to get into the support area. I have bben in once, I know my password and the email address I used to register. I dont know my username. Its not my email address and its not any of the words I would have picked (I have a standard couple of usernames) Is it my account number? Could I register again?

Have you guys tried the registry file in my GUIDE HERE

They work exactly the same way as Keyboard patch utility for AW.
