Hey guys wow, i just came on today to check and the m17x went down $200.
Its now starting at $1999 instead of $2199 here in Canada.
-
lol wish the usa would go down in price also..the m17 came down and is at a pretty sweet price right now with dual 4850's
-

consider it as offsetting part of the taxes that you'll have to pay through the nose for
-
Yea this is nice because it makes the Canadian price on par with the American price.
I'm too used to being ripped off because I live a few miles across the border. -

The m17 is a nice deal right now, until you try to upgrade ANYTHING. 300 for blu ray? 200 for screen? 200 for 4GB ram?!
Of course, I would upgrade all those myself (except screen) but still, they are getting the same in the end, it is a gimmic to pull in customers z. -
Just wondering, shouldn't the title be changed to in Canada? Just don't want everyone getting all excited if it only applies to one geographical region. ((I was ecstatic for a sec until I saw it was Canada only)). Happy that the Canadians are getting a break now.
-
its not bad if you order the m17 with dual 4850 and wuxga screen and intel 5300, and the rest standard and do that stuff yourself its only 1750$
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya thats true.....and you can part out the unused stuff to recoup cost. But 1750 for a "barebones" essentially is still pretty steep
-
-
yeah you can sell the cpu, ram hdd etc...so figure about 1500$ after selling off parts
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I heavily considered it, but would rather just have the M17x
-
oh i would also but i have everything laying around to add to the m17...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
you should still be quite happy with an m17 as long as you get an x9100 and not qx9300 haha (and if this driver $hit ever gets figured out)
-
i used to have the ocz version of it...
-
I am not saying you did a bad thing, I was just wondering if the title should be changed, not that it has to be changed.

the whitebook didn't have 4850's in it Z
we both know how much of a difference that makes (and I had a whitebook too, they are excellent notebooks by any measure) -

Just don't break it haha. It is pretty hard to screw a laptop up to the point you actually need warranty work on it (at least if you are smart)

Man I bought my M17x for the original 2199 with some upgrades, you guys think if I call Dell and make a big deal about this, they will give me a discount?
Sucks knowing I paid 200 dollars too much now. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would definitely do it, you are with in the return period
typically all companies give you price protection for at least the return period -

Should I talk to my sales rep or will any rep do?

I just received my M17x 2 days ago so I am within the return window. Anyways I'm going to call a rep later because I am at work now, was just on break, and don't have time.
-

In this case I would actually say that the M17 is a better performer with the higher CPU and the 4850's, although the jury is still out on the latter. Also, if you throw in the fact that the m17 is $200 less with 2M of memory, then you can save another $100-$150 by replacing it yourself, which is probably the easiest of any upgrade.
So I say the M17 is actually quite an attractive buy right now for someone who doesn't care too much about battery life and likes the previous form factor better. -

True, but poor support for quads and an EOL mxm slot limit it. As does lesser cooling compared to the m17x and no AlienFX because they are uber cool! (ok that last one doesn't necessarily matter haha) There is also the gimpy num pad on the m17 where the m17x has a standard layout there
But it is absolutely true that with the recent price drops and 4850 option the M17 remains a contender for customers wallets! -

Anyway, I called Dell and they told me they don't have a price protection policy and they can't credit me back the 200 dollars, I tried 3 different reps, two of them said I would have to return the laptop and re-order to get the 200.00 off.
I called my original sales rep, and she said she would talk to her manager and see what she can do for me, and that she would call me back on Monday to let me know if they can help. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
good luck man, I can't imagine that they are going to $hit on you that bad
-
That really sucks, even after they fix the price for us Canadians they still **** us over. I just got mine today so I know how you feel. Hopefully your sales rep will give you good news on Monday although I doubt it.
-
-
-
im hopin mine gets worked out or atleast add something like extend my warrenty for like an extra 2 years for the 200$
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Well if they don't honor the new price I will send it back and re-order, 200.00 dollars is a lot of money.
-
-
I just read the Dell Canada return policy and it says that you still have to pay a 15% restocking fee. This makes it very unlikely that many will return there M17x, I know I won't.
-
Hmm, in the US, it says *may*. If you talk to the rep the right way, he/she will most likely waive the fee. It wouldn't hurt to try.
-
Well I'm on the phone canceling the exchange I had set up and I'm going to re-order..I can finally afford the SLI 260's!!
-
Yeah this is good news for everyone! regardless of where its at. I expect with the Dell merger prices may come down as well for us long suffering UK customers.
Are you ordering then Boomer? -
I was gonna order last week but still waiting for my credit card to come probably within this week or next.
This is just a bonus for me lol. -
