Hey,
I haven't put a dvd in my m17x since i got it a few weeks ago until today. When I was copying over a DVD the transfer rate capped at 1.71mb/s and I couldnt even hear my drive spinning unless I put my ear on top of it. I've had issues with drives before, and figured the IDE controller was in PIO mode. It took a while to find the controller for the drive, since Alienware did some interesting configuring in device manager, but when I did manage to find it, it showed the transfer mode was listed as DMA.
I used Nero DiscSpeed, and ran the benchmark and after it got to 4x, it steadily went back down. CPU utilization for 4x and 8x wouldnt even go. The drive failed to spin up past 2x.
So I don't know where else to look for a solution. I was hoping someone on the forums could help me out.
Oh, and I'm not sure exactly which brand drive i have, but it shows up as HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA10N SCSI CdRom Device.
-Thanks
