So, when I was running the rate my system and it got to the 3d test.. I noticed this elecrical buzz sound coming from the left side of my laptop (assuming that's where my 260m's are located. (Running Sli) .. It def. didn't sound like the fan. It happens when I load Aion right before the log in screen. Gameplay ... Its not there. I'm not sure exactly what's going on with it. I also noted a lot of screen tearing during gameplay. (I'm aware that vsync will fix this.) Screen tearing happens with all the games i've tested without vsync. (Crysis, MWF2, and aion.)

Any ideas of what this could be or how I can fix this... What steps should I take?

vsync is also supposed to help with the buzzing sound. Google coil noise and you'll see some fixes which include hot glue on your cards. ;)

Yes. The nVidia systems seems a little worse than the ATI for some reason but they both do it.

    Thanks Mandrake.

And screen tearing itself. That's normal with the m17x on these games also? I was debating on sending mine off for repair but if this is just something everyone has to deal with then I guess i'll just say whatever to it heh.

Thanks again for the replies guys :)

    (Edit for a question)

Do you also have the buzzing noise and screen tearing during gameplay?

Both M17x I've had came with the buzzing noise. As far as games is concerned I really only play FO3 and that maxes out at 60 FPS even with vsync off. It might be set in CCC that way, I would need to check.

Yeah you can hear the cards purring away the second a game starts loading textures and stuff into the memory. Load WoW/GTA/ or Call of duty and now that they run off my SSD so I don't hear anything but system fans I hear..

    Weeeeeeeerrrreeeeerr. WEEEEEEET. EET EET. WEEEEEET.

That my friend is the sound of graphical perfection. Actually I can tell if Crossfire is on simply by listening to the second card!

My M1730 8800MGTX Cards also had this noise issue from the GPU under load.

NVidia Tools and most games set vsync default to off. Your Tearing is directly related to VSync, turn it ON in game and or Nvidia drivers.

Lol at the Eet eet WEEEEET. Kinda made me LOL

Ah, either way you guys made my brain kinda settle.

My m17x has the following specs.

    T9600 dual 2.8ghz proc.

    Dual 260m's Sli

    4 gigs of ram.

    1900x1200 screen.

Last question.. - (BTW, I'm really sorry about all of this lol - I'm just making sure everything is up to par and running correctly)
What kind of performance should I be getting out of my m17x during games such as modern warfare 2? Everything runs fine in the snow levels and during heavy duty stuff but for some reason on a couple of levels with no snow or anything going on i'll kinda lock up.

I'm not able to run crysis maxed out and thats with AA disabled. Normal?
High settings are okay... Laggy every now and then. but not ultra high.

260s are lower end cards, but MW2 should run fine. Unfortunately with Nvidias performance and stability really varies from what version of the driver you use.

Not helpful but note thats a bit reason I went with ATI, was fed up of tweaking drivers every 2 weeks :)

    Lol true that huh?

But yeah, I'll eventually upgrade when the time is needed - right now I have to say this is all working pretty peachy for me.. Vsync is my friend now.

I'll eventually upgrade the cards later down the road, probably to the ATI's when the price drops on them (if that ever happens.)

Not complaining... I got my system brand new for 2k =D
