I just went through the dell alienware ordering screen and they have removed the option to purchase the higher rez lcd display. I wonder if they have a shortage or a known issue or something.

If you are talking about the WUXGA, it is available on the configurator now - I just checked it.

17-inch WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 (900p) is the only thing i see available. Not the other two. Just may be a little bit of time until they get them back in stock.

So very odd. They will not ship your machine for a month but in that time they can not scrape up a high resolution screen for you. I am amazed yet again.

Dell joins dog pile, sues five LCD makers over price-fixing allegations
    March 15, 2010 11:05 by Ross Miller
Looks like Dell is getting itself a membership in a club of which AT&T, Nokia, and the US Department of Justice are none too pleased to say they're members. The company has filed suit in a San Francisco court today against four Japanese LCD makers - Sharp, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Seiko Epson - and Taiwan-based HannStar. The crime at hand? None other than the much-chronicled LCD price fixing cartel. At least two of the aforementioned companies (Sharp and Hitachi) have already come forth to admit involvement and pay fines elsewhere, and now it looks like the troubles are still coming for them and others. If only there was some way the companies could band together to increase profits and help pay for these suits... oh, wait.

Maybe dell will refund everyone half the money they spent on thier screen :p I know I'm wishful thinking but hey, I'm a dreamer. Maybe this explains why some screens show grayish blacks.
