Just received my m17x today. It has a single 4870 card in it.
When I change the screen resolution, instead of scaling the new resolution to fill the entire display, it merely turns off the edges of the screen to the dimensions of the new resolution. This isn't acceptable. If I leave it at the 1900x1200 recommended resolution, everything in games is too small. If i change it to a lower resolution, it just cuts off the edges of the screen.
Anyone know how to make it scale appropriately so the new resolution fills the entire screen instead of just chopping off the edges and top? I've tried searching through every page of the ati software, and couldn't find any way to change this.
Thanks!

some games let you force full screen do you have that option? i can understand you not wanting everything so small what in particuler are you refering to the gui? or the objects on the screen. Because no matter the resolution what you see dosent really shrink it just becomes sharper and crisper tho the gui does appear to shrink but they usualy include a GUI resizer in the graphics options in most games.

What games are you seeing this on?
-
Any game, and also the desktop.
Selecting a lower resolution just basically turns off the edges of the monitor, instead of scaling everything larger to the new resolution like every computer i've ever had until now did/does. -
This issue shouldn't be affecting all of your games. What drivers are you using?

I had the same issue what you need to do is change your game resolution. I had it happen to Flatout2. Once I ajust the game resolution It filled the whole screen.

OK, this is strange... I got notified of Windows Updates. Installed them, and restarted the computer.
Problem solved. What's odd is that none of the updates were video related, yet the problem is gone.
I do have to set the screen resolution from the control panel prior to starting a game; games don't have the ability to correctly change the resolution, but that's not that big of a thing. I'll just make new profiles for each game in the ati control center.
Just glad to have my new computer working (more or less) correctly.
Thanks for the help gents... I love this forum!
Edit: I didn't want to wait for the LED screen, so I upgraded to the best LCD option. The display on this thing is beautiful.
Additional edit: I've been using primarily nVidia cards until the 4870 in my new Alienware. I've had a bunch of experience with SLI in desktop machines, and have really enjoyed the performance. My current desktop card is a single GTX295... waiting for the prices to drop on the 295's to add a second card for quad SLI goodness. Why am I saying all this? Because I have zero experience with Cross Fire. I'm not all that happy with the performance of the single 4870 in the m17x. If I add a second 4870, is it necessary to obtain a "Cross Fire Profile" for each game, or will Cross Fire work for *any* game? I ask because I'm currently playing SWGemu a ton, and if adding Cross Fire isn't going to help for SWGemu, I don't really want to spend the cash on it right now. -
whats SWGemu?

Update: More Windows Updates and another reboot. Now everything is working as it should. Games can now adjust screen resolution appropriately.
Dunno how/what got fixed, but everything is working great now.
DPC latency checker is also green after running it for ten minutes.
