Just curious if anyone runs linux on these beasts and if so, how well it works.

I like to dual boot a linux distro and Win 7. The distro varies based on my mood.

I am just curious about how the hardware works, any incompatibilities, etc.

I would advise against dual-booting. I used to be into dual-booting myself and after discovering virtual machines (VirtualBox) I realized what a huge waste of time and space dual booting was. Too much hassle, very little reward.

With that said, I have Ubuntu (9.04) running, and Windows 7 on VirtualBox. Everything works fine so far, so no incompatibility issues with either one so far. I am talking about the "All Powerful" M17x by the way.

Honestly, I know all about virtualization and have used VBox, VirtualPC, VMWare, VMWare Fusion, and Parallels... but when it comes right down to it, I compile a lot of programs for my specific system in Linux and virtualization just doesn't cut it on a quadcore. The speed of doing it natively is about 4.5x that of virtualization due to all four cores being utilized.

Thank you for telling me that you have Ubuntu going though. I'm curious about Kubuntu 9.10 - Karmic something or other. Looks interesting for a KDE distro.

And yeah I'm talking about the "All Powerful" too. Just ordered mine.
