    Hi people. New here.
I'm just hoping that the good people of this forum can answer some of my questions..

I got my alienware m17x a week ago. I was bloody excited so I didn't really check around for minor defects and such.
So today.. while staring up at my laptop, I noticed a defect in the chassis (on the screen).

The left side shown above is worse than the right..

Does anyone else have this problem? Will alienware replace it?
    Thanks

Those are very normal. What you should be more worried about is if the glass pane is tightly sealed. Double check that.

Hmm your camera's not very clear. Is it just extruding towards you or is there actually a sign of aluminum tearing off the chassis?

If there's a defect Dell will replace it

Looks like a defect from the angle of the picture, I would call Dell about it.

Sorry about that, I'm using my phone's camera. No there's no aluminium tearing off. Comparing the 2 sides, I think it's just the whole glass pane on the front more balanced to the right than it'is to the left.
So it appears ok on the right, where as there's just a small gap between the border(outer alumiunium I believe) and the glass pane on the left.
I'll take some pictures later with a better camera if I can find one. Thanks for all the reply!

Here's a better picture of it.

Oh and, I checked out lemonspeaker and thought I noticed something similar, so yea, maybe it's just me being a bit too anal about it.

I think it's to do with how the glass pane was cut, nothing wrong with the assembly. The edge of the glass pane seems to be rounded just a lil' exposing the a gap, as compared to the other side where it's cut sharp.
Apart from that, everything else is solid!

Looking at that now is a bit different.

    I'd say it's 1 mm off but yeah, your being a little nit-picky :)

    Hi T3Vince
Mine has a bit of a gap as well. This is farily normal as the chassis was custom fit for the design. You'll also notice a small inconsistency near the speakers as well.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    ^

LOL. Light up the speaker grills and look at the left speaker.

You'll see a small gap from the bottom of the chassis where the plastic meets.

It's really not a big deal but some ppl like to go over their system with a magnifying glass :p

I'm not sure how they'll fix this since it's somewhat a cosmetic issue :p
I just don't see them ripping off the entire glass pane and putting back a new one.
Or will they replace it? I'm getting kinda attached to this laptop now so yea..

Anyway, I ordered mine from Malaysia and it took about 3 weeks or so for it to be delivered. Can I send the laptop back to fix the problem once I'm back in uk?

If I pay ~$3000 for a system, I would expect perfection. I would definitely exchange it...unacceptable!

wao..this thread is really not helping :p
Yeah..it's driving me up the wall now.

Will they replace the whole system just for that? And how long does it take for them to send it back again.. that's another issue for me since I'll be leaving for the UK in about 3 weeks' time.

I somehow don't think they have those kinda services here in malaysia. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone mind taking a picture of their perfect alienware..especially their top corners so I can make a comparison?

    Hi T3Vince,
I would like to reassure you that your system is normal. The gap will very a little on each system. There is no such thing as a perfect machine, being that they're only as good as the person who designed/assembled it. I'll take a quick snapshot of my computer and post it this afternoon.

unhip_crayon - I wish you the best in finding an absolute perfect computer, as they don't exist no matter how much you pay.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

I have the same thing, a small gap on both sides.

Doesn't bother me at all, I'd rather a well designed machine when it comes to internals than something that is perfect on the outside but overheats ect.
