Its just heavier then most if not all 17inch laptops and thats where the complaints come from . Average 17inch is around 8 pounds . M17x is 12 pounds.

Yeah, mine weighed 12.5 pounds with 1 HDD and 1 GPU. I'm sure the people who have 2 HDD's and 2 GPU's will weigh more.

Its heavier to carry around on a daily basis as well so when people say its heavier they take all those things into consideration not just the fact that they can lift if off the desk .

The M17x certainly weighs a lot for a notebook but it is not something I am going to put as a con in my review; this is a 17-inch desktop replacement, not an ultraportable.

Yeah i dont think its weight deserves to have points taken away from it . Its built like a tank so the weight is understandable. Its not practical for some people to carry to class though every day but again thats some not everyone.

It's like complaining the V8 you got in you're car is burning too much gas, you wanted the extra power you have to pay for it.

It would certainly be too heavy for me to lug it around in college, but why would I do such a thing? The M17X looks more like a portable desktop than anything else; good for LAN parties and for travelling if you want to keep pc gaming close, but never for daily stuff. There are notebooks better suited for that, like anything bellow 16".

Agreed, while I don't think the M17x is heavy, there is a difference between site to site mobility and true on the go mobility and usage. For on the go usage, I tend to use a MSI VR705 w/ a P9500 which gets much better battery life (and in related news, water is wet) and has an AC Adapter ~1/8 the size of the brick of my NP9280.

But with that being said, if you can't do 10+ real push ups (kiss the floor while chest touches) or 6+ real pull ups (Even cheater neutral or suppinated positions full extension) or lightly jog a mile (sub 15 min) you are grossly out of shape. Seriously, take 30-60 min/day and get in some semblance of shape. Respect your body the same as you do your mind.

    In summary:

M17x not heavy for designated purpose
    Get in Shape

I can do the push ups, jogging and carry the M17x but I can't do the pull-ups, what does that make me? Lol.

I use my m17x for school, Not the lightest laptop ever build but no more heavier then dragging along a backpack full of books.
I dont think it's very heavy and have no problem carrying it around all day.
But like Chaz said it's a desktop replacement so it will have some weight to it.

People need to stop complaining; they should be reminded of how thick and heavy a NORMAL notebook was around 10 years ago.

hahaha....yah I totally agree! Get yourself even slightly fit, the weight of the m17x becomes a non-issue, even for use as in on the go mobility, like I use mine....

Which is interesting, because it strikes me that the level of fitness among the general population was better 10 years ago....

That's also true. It's my opinion though that people complaining that the M17x is heavy need to go to the gym and work out. A lot. I've taken my M17 to school quite a lot now in the Orion messenger bag with some heavy schoolbooks too and I've had no problem. (It'd be even better if I had the backpack but I didn't think it'd fit my schoolbooks in too...turns out it probably would have. Damn it >.<)

I'd contend that the m17x is a good form of exercise and that lugging the thing around only makes you stronger.

"when i walk around with it, i make sure it's adjusted so that my hands fully hold the bottom of rig, but i'm careful not to cover the vents."
    maybe weight lifting
"ok guys, i didn't have any weights at my house so i decided to use my m17x for squats(i did 10. (i did this with my whitebook LMAO))"

LOL!! I could make up a nice routine based on the rifle PT I used to do but replace it with the M17/x. Heck it'd be a slightly tougher workout since the M16 was around 9lb with a full 30mag. =P

    I think that's a great analogy.

One other point about the weight - transporting the M17x to a LAN party is a hell of a lot easier than lugging a desktop tower, monitor, and peripherals. Plus, there's only one power cord.
