    Hi all,

I posted a few weeks ago about extreme lag problems I was having where I would go from 60 fps to 1 fps every 30 seconds.

I called up dell and they have sent me 3 new graphics cards, new motherboard, new heat sink, and a new processor. None of these solved the problem. They are now going to send me a new m17x.

I am wondering is there some sort of setting in the BIOS (not enabling and disabling hybrid/discrete graphics) that I need to look at. It almost feels like the cards are under-clocking themselves every 30 seconds or so.

Any one else having these problems? Is there some setting that perhaps the stellar technicians at Dell forgot to turn on or off? I am hoping for some sort of simple solution so I don't have to wait 30 more days to play any of the games on this machine. :(

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

    Dax

I recommend you check on this post and this post. Both I feel are probably dealing with the underlying cause regarding your sound issues and lock ups, as I experience them both as well, which will not be fixed by driver updates or different drivers, it's a hardware level issue which Dell/Alienware need to address and are working on.

Also, Dell and Alienware are aware of the issue, see this post.

I have had no sound issues or lock-ups as described in those posts.

My only problem is that I will be playing a game at a smooth crystal clear 62 frames a second and then at about 30 second intervals the fps will drop down to 1 for about 10 seconds and then slowly climb back up to 40-50 and then repeat the cycle over and over until eventually it will happen every 10 seconds and only recover to 15 or so fps.

That doesn't sound like what is described on those posts and I have determined that it is "apparently" not hardware related. I'm guessing it could be related the same BIOS problems that were reported in those posts.

Thanks for the reply. Looking for any other solutions that I may have overlooked.

Well the jury is still out on what the intermittant lockups are. Several including Bat Boy (Vista 64 I think?) and myself (Windows 7 Ultimate 64) aren't getting any intermittant lag spikes / lockups.

We're all getting the DPC issue in regards to the green to yellow-or-red hops every 2nd bar though. Mine rarely exceed 2k and even the very rare spike has never exceeded 10k. I just run a 30 minute run over lunch and my absolute maximum was 2702.

Stutter :p, and no, not getting any of that either. I also have hybrid/integrated disabled and only run on discrete.
