    Hi everyone,

I did something really stupid with my computer today. I'm in college with a very busy (and sleep-deprived) schedule, and I was rushing from a class where I was using my laptop to a meeting that I had to make 5 minutes after. I closed the laptop (while it was still on), put it in my messenger bag, left it in my room, and was back 30-35 minutes later.

When I took the laptop out of the bag, it was pretty hot; I opened it in this state and the LCD lit up with a black screen; nothing was there. I quickly turned the computer off, let it cool, and turned it back on.

Now it seems to work perfectly again; I haven't noticed anything amiss. But, is it possible that I damaged something permanently which will come back to bite me later? If so, how can I see if damage was done?

Thanks a lot for your help, and I'm really not stupid with computers, I promise; it was just one of those days where your sleepy mind is all chaotic and you neglect to do certain things.

If it would have got so hot that it was going to hurt anything it probably would have powered off, so you should be just fine.

I think you should be fine! My dog ate through my power cable when it was on and both he and the laptop are fine! Power cable is f'ed though :(

I would suggest selling it to me at a ridiculously low price, and than by a new one. :)

But seriously though , I did that with my m15x a few times, and eventually got a few cracks in the case, though I don't know if that's why it happened, I'm sure doing it didn't help, you would probably be better doing a hard shut down instead of leaving it in the beg.

    My offer still stands. :p

you are lucky most pc/notebooks come with a feature in bios that if temp goes past X it shuts off..

    so you should be fine.

I would venture to say probably not. These laptops, as Quad points out, have safeguards to shut down if they get too hot. Also, most components go through a burn-in process at the factory under much more intense conditions. Your laptop should be fine. LOL try not to make a habit of it though....

AW's always seem to have issues with going to sleep. My M17 will only go to sleep once. I.E. I close the lid, it sleeps, I open the lid, it comes back, I close the lid again....it stays on even with lid closed...open lid...black screen but computer seems to be doing "something". Hard reboot required at this point. Never quite figured out why this is. My HP DV9700 never had this issue so it must be ACPI related somehow.

    What he said.

Ya, I'm tired of reading my PDFs so I'm bored and padding my post count.
