    Hello ,
    received a second m17x today , core i7 620 , single gpu .

After first booting it up i found that the gpu fan ran very high so i checked gpu-z .
The programm told me that the gpu is running at 65-70 °C in idle ...

Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem ?
The notebook crashes even at shabby 2D games

    thx for your help

This is new correct? If I ask seemingly rhetorical quesstions it's for a reason. Needing as much details as possible to make sure I get the whole picture accurately.

It's possible the techs left the tape on the heatsinks prior to installing it. Are you cofortable dissassembling the laptop yourself? They may have forgotten thermal paste too. Or your GPU heat sink may not be sitting on the GPU flush. Is there a way you can read the load on the GPU? Perhaps something is causing it to be under load constantly. Whatever it is, it sounds like there isn't proper heat dissipation between the GPU and heatsink. Especially since your fan is running.

Gpu load is 1 -3 % so no worries there i guess

I guess i will have to dissassemble the laptop to see if there is paste on the gpu

Thats frustrating, I'd provide you with a link, but for some reason my search feature isn't working. Search "The_Moo GPU guide" That should have a video of a step by step for dissassembling the notebook. Don;t click the link, its stupid auto linking.

+1 for the quick link Atol

Just be careful removing the palmrest and the plastic strip with the power button as they have ribbon cables attached to them

Hay DR650SE I could only find the cpu one. But it will some basic on how to take some of the hardware off. But go to dell.com and look at the manual. It would have a how to guide. Best idea is have a tech on the phone.

yea, I can't find anything because my work connection has been screwy the last few days and a search takes me to a "Todays Promotions" screen. That CPU guide should get you far enough.
