Well if you talk about an OC 280m sli you should compare it to an OC 260m sli. An OC 260m sli has the same performance as the regular 280m sli (besides the small difference in SP). So an OC'ed 280m sli should have a lot less then 35-40% performance boost compared to an OC 260m sli. Keep in mind that I am talking about reasonable OC'ing on both the 260m and 280m. Unless you can provide viable proof of this incredible performance boost, I think the real difference between the two when OC will be around 25%.

i think quadzilla had a previous post about his oced 280m and did a benchmark on it.

    oc 280sli had a benchmark of 16,000.

Again, at best, +10%, at worst, +0%. If you OC the 280M and compare to stock 260M, of course it looks faster. But Moo has shown you can overclock the 260M just as high, if not higher, and the only difference comes down to a relatively meager 16/32 shaders. Unless you are a benchmarker or want bragging rights, it is not worth it.

i'm a benchmarker. so the 280m sli is a must. but the 300 is a killer.

yea and i even asked the dell spare parts if i dont buy it with the machines its going to cost $900+ tax+ shipping charges for future upgrades and thats the downside of it. epp dell rep even recommended me to get the 280m sli now and avoid the headache.

Hmmnnn.....so then that brings up an interesting conundrum.

July Promotion for Dual 280's and a Q9000 (which, when upgraded for the 1200p screen then subtracted discount) comes out to 2449....

    OR-

A stock model upgraded to 1200p, 260's and a T9600, which comes out to 2277 after discount.....

Is the Q9000 and the extra cores worth the loss of speed each of those cores has in order to grab the 280's? Hmmnnn....

prat i think its worth the q9000 you can always get e0 cpus on ebay cheaper then trying to buy 2 280m in sli mode for future upgrade.

The question is: you really need the extra SP's ?.

SP as a SMP system stack 100% when in SLI and theres no game that can use 224 shaders ATM (synthetic benchmarks can).

And TBH pc gaming is so fail those days... I don't see the games becoming much more demanding in shaders in the next 1, 2 years (at least with DX10).

SP is SMP and have the same problem that every SMP system have: you can't divide 1 thread between 2 processors.

    GTX260m overclock the same/better than GTX280m so: no :D .

I am not trying to say that you NEED the extra SP haha, of course you dont. With computers the most bang for the buck is ALWAYS the CHEAPEST (price not quality) parts you can find.\

Of course....I will still get the GTX 280m's.....because 3DMark Vantage is such a kicka$$ game haha

And why you would want to get 280m after market ? LOL this doesn't make sense.

It isn't going to save you any money in a "long term investment" since if you are going to upgrade will be for GTX3xx not for GTX280m :p

If you guys are referring to the e-value code it should be available for a while.

Plus Dell doesn't release there new catalogs until the 2nd week of the month so you have some time.....

    Hi guys
As a canadian, after having talked to dell Canada, they told me " our website has already all the best deals" we can't even give you another 50$ or anything
SO the Price for a comparable system in Canada, with taxes is "
    Sub-total $3,509.00

    Shipping $0.00
    PST $280.89
    GST $175.55
    HST $0.00
    Environmental Disposal Fee $2.14

    Total Price 1 $3,967.58
    ====================================

After I do all the calculations with a US Purchase to the Ogdenburg/NY UPS store, a pickup by Canadians/US citizens, it comes to about $ 3,400 Canadian, which includes paying US STATE of NY taxes of $ 180.

This is addition to a US/CDN exchange rate of 1.11, paying canadian taxes etc. It comes to 3,400 or so.

So if I do these gymnastics, by buying a US machine , through the website and the EPP/E-Value codes, I save $ 600. I get no vendor support (presumably) as dell canada will not support my box, and I do have to go and get it, declare it at border, and pay those taxes.

    What a pain...

Now here's my question to anyone here, esp. those wonderful overcharged canuxcks present here.

Would you do it, on such an expensive purchase ?

I anxiously await your replies, this si the best website I've ever seen on technology purchases ever. Thank you to Sleyy and otehrs who have already been so helpful to me

    Take care all
    Jean

As far as I know Dell support and warranty is worldwide. If you can purchase it in the US because you have a friend there you can easily take it to Canada and if a problem occurs tell Dell that you have been transfered there. This should be no problem. Call Dell US just to confirm that if you move out of the country for a few years for work the warranty will work in Canada.

When I purchased my Laptop, I just went with the system in my sig. Came to around 3200CDN for everything. If your hesitant on spending that much maybe your should downgrade some parts, and buy the upgrades later?
