I noticed on my computer that the Command Center strip isn't even accross the top of the computer and tends to be "raised" in certain areas.

I made a connection between the screws that are holding it in place from the bottom of the machine. At first I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me, but it is indeed uneven and seems 'raised' in spots.

I checked several pictures of different people's M17Xs and they all seem to have this un-eveness with the command center strip.

Looking at it from left to right, its even then slightly drops where the screw holds it in place then continues evenly until it reaches the other screw then seems to raise slightly where the eject button, sound, etc. buttons are then continues to its finish. In this area, there also seems to be a slight bump which seems to be cause by the hardware packed underneath.

My concern is I don't know if this 'raised' area is raised enough to possible scratch the screen in some way...

It's difficult for me to see. I tested it by putting a paper strip on each side and closed the lid. The strips seemed to slide out without binding, so I think it's probably safe.

I've included a picture. If all of you with an M17X could take a look at this area of your laptops and tell me if you also have this slight raised area, it would be appreciated. As I stated, I've seen it on every M17X pic i have come accross and I want to make sure its not my OCD but infact is a slight uneveness...

I don't have mine yet so I can't confirm. But, I think others would have reported that if they had it too. It looks pretty bad imho. That almost looks like heatwarpage or they messed up installing it during mfg.

Thought about calling and see if they'll fix it?

Thats the thing, thats not even a pic of my m17x, its GabeZ's. Mine looks similar...

I had a second Command Center strip installed after I realized the 1st one had a crack in it. I installed it myself and I KNOW I did it right. The original Comman Center strip that came with my m17x and the replacement both have this 'raised' area...

How about calling Dell / alienware to ask them about this ? I think they would handle it better

You kidding me? They would deny this, just like they denied the fact that their DDR5 Radeon cards were really DDR3...

I love your optimism, but it sounds like you don't have much experience dealing with Dell or Alienware. Looks like you have an M17X, do you have this warped/raised area?

Like I said before, it's difficult for me to see a raised area. So, I placed a wooden straight-edge along the media strip. I was able to rock the straight-edge back and forth slightly. However, I still believe it is not touching my screen when the lid is closed.
