click on the processes tab and see what is causing the memory leak.

Check what process is using the memory.
EDIT: Oh, I didn't see your post. Sorry.

no, what they are saying is go into the 'Processes' tab in the Task Manager to check exactly WHAT process is causing the memory leak. It might not be the installation program itself. We need to know WHAT process is leaking memory to help you.

    Yeah, as Mandrake said
Go to Task Manager Process Tab
    click on Memory
and check what's causing the leakage.
    or, post a screenshot here.

4GB ram is a lot, i think its the software problem or maybe the hardware, but not because of not enough of ram. do what they said.

have you tried fresh installing windows ?

    Happens to me occasionally too.
Windows freezes 1-2 times every day and you can't do anything for 1-3min. Can't even open the Task-Manager etc.

Yep. If I install a game, I can't do anything on my computer, because all tasks will freeze. Pretty weird.

The weirdest part is, that nothing is showing up in my Task-Manager.

edit: During installations my PC would freeze every ~5 minutes for 2-3 minutes.

But if I install something, I just go get me a drink or smoke in the meantime :D

Have you disabled SuperFetch? SuperFetch is Microsloths pre-caching software and unless you're just using office applications is useless as freaking hell. It'll try pre-caching game installer, game data files, all sort of stupid stuff. If it's not disabled, disable it.

Thanks for the good idea, I'll try it out.

    edit:
So I completely installed Borderlands from scratch and thanks, I finally got no more memory problems during installations (I hope Borderlands Install CD is no exception)

I recommend the following instructions to fayez999 and Momiji1. Would be perfect, if you could edit the following manual in you first post, IF that should have fixed your problem.

Like everyone else said, you really need to look at the Processes tab in Task Manager. Sort by memory usage so that highest ranking programs are at the top.

Also, I'd suggest you ditch all the cleaning and 'boost' programs and get yourself CCleaner. Antivirus would be recommended, there are plenty completely free ones out there.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say your PC is highly infected, though.

I wonder if this is the same problem im having. Everytime I installed a game everything slows down (minimizing, maximizing, etc) when it reach 70-80% installation.

I didnt actually care about this problem but I'll try what swizzly64 instruction next time I install a game.. thanks for the thread..

Hm, the SuperFetch Fix wasn't a solution for me.

After I was playing GTA4 for 30mins, my memory just went crazy again.

I have no idea of getting rid of the problem. Memory is just sky-rocketing randomly.

ok, since my m17x didn't respond 15-20 times today, i'll call dell support tomorrow. they should completely exchange this peace of crap.

not even installing everything from scratch would work.

It actually sounds like wrong chipset drivers were installed.
Would be a good idea to browse the Event Viewer.

I've downloaded all Dell drivers from their site

Link removed due to your service tag being on the site

except the Video Drivers of course

Could you browse the Event Viewer and provide the error description from the last freeze?

Ok, I reinstalled the Chipset Driver and everything works smoother now. I just installed the driver over the same one. Probably had some installation issues or something other. I dunno.

If the problem persists I shall hunt it down with Event Viewer.

And out of curiosity: What could someone do with my service-tag number?

You've been pirating software from one of the oldest pirating rings Razor 1911. Razor 1911 is notorious for hosting after reopening after it was shut down spam and zombieware with the pirated games.

Your alienware is now a zombie under the control of whatever criminal organization wants. Your computer is now little more than a spambot for whatever criminal organization is in control of your computer.

You cannot see the program using the memory because you have been rootkited to avoid having it show up and no antivirus can save you once you have been rootkited. A rootkit is a patch to the OS itself, when built properly it cannot or nearly impossible to remove. If you are lucky you might find the rootkit as an unknown software title in Non-plug and play devices in your hardware manager - but chances are the uninstall if you attempt it will fail due to automatic re-patching which many rootkits do.

Your only option is to reformat and reinstall Windows and ceast to use Razor 1911. To the moderators of notebookreview, I request a policy of no mention of piracy allowed similar to what is done in console emulation development.

I second that and thread closed. Razor 1911 is software piracy and we do not allow discussion of that nature(see forum rules).

    Op,
Bring it up again, and you will be banned.
