Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster. Yesterday I received my new m17x (QX9300, 280m SLI, 256GB SSD) and have had a horrible experience with the touchpad. It is laggy and scrolling is terrible. I uninstalled the alienware drivers and have stuck with the default windows ones, which have made it slighly more usable. Mainly I was wondering if other m17x touchpads have a strip about 5mm (1/4 inch) around the border on all 4 sides that is inactive (ie. the outside border of the honeycomb texture). If all m17x's have it then I guess i'll just deal with it, otherwise i'll try to get it fixed.

    Hi Amil9145,
The touch pad is only active on the "honeycomb" textured areas. You can adjust the sensitivity of your touchpad through command center.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Hi GabeZ, thanks for the reply. On my laptop, the active are doesnt extend to the edge of the honeycomb texture, even with the sensitivity on maximum - I did a quick sketch to show what I mean

The border of the active area is the red line.

    Hi amil9145,
I'll double check on my system just to verify.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Hi Moo,
thanks for verifying, as I'm not currently in front of my M17X. Unfortunately, the synaptics driver fails to properly disable/enable on external mouse. Also, you have to pair it with command center to fine tune it. The Microsoft driver is more responsive due to the fact that everything is already in the driver.

    Thanks,
    Gabe
